Cat C Engineers, also known as Category C Engineers, are licensed aircraft maintenance engineers authorized to certify the release to service of aircraft after maintenance. They have a broad knowledge of aircraft systems and are responsible for overseeing and signing off major maintenance tasks and checks. Cat C Engineers typically supervise teams of B1 and B2 engineers and ensure that all work complies with aviation safety regulations. Their certification is regulated by aviation authorities like the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) or the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). This role is critical in maintaining aircraft airworthiness and operational safety.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a Cat C engineer?

To thrive as a Cat C Engineer, you typically need a recognized engineering degree or equivalent, strong knowledge of aircraft systems, and an EASA Part-66 Category C License. These skills are vital for maintaining aircraft airworthiness, minimizing downtime, and upholding regulatory and safety requirements.

What equipment or systems does a Cat C engineer typically maintain?

A Cat C Engineer is generally responsible for the maintenance, repair, and certification of aircraft systems and components, focusing on base or heavy maintenance tasks. This often includes overseeing complex systems such as airframes, powerplants, and avionics on commercial or cargo aircraft. As a result, daily routines involve detailed inspections, troubleshooting technical issues, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring all work complies with aviation safety regulations. The role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines, especially during aircraft turnaround periods.
