Job description

From stormwater maintenance and inspections to erosion control, liner systems, and green infrastructure, our work makes an impact across the Southeast-and we're looking for people who want to grow with us.
The Controller is responsible for leading the company's accounting and financial operations while providing strategic financial support to executive leadership. This role oversees financial reporting, cash management, payroll oversight, job costing, budgeting, and internal controls while developing the accounting team and improving financial processes across the organization.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead all accounting operations, including monthly and year-end financial close.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements, reports, and executive-level reporting.
  • Manage cash flow, bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Oversee high-level invoicing, bonus calculations, expense reviews, accounts payable, payroll review, and general accounting functions.
  • Review job costing, project profitability, and construction financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Coordinate annual financial reviews and tax preparation with external CPA firms. Maintain relationships with banking, insurance, bonding, and financial partners.
  • Develop and mentor the accounting team, including future Staff and Senior Accountants.
  • Improve accounting systems, processes, and reporting capabilities.
  • Partner with leadership and operations-including supporting maintenance project management with financial reporting and analysis-to improve business performance.

Requirements
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Construction accounting experience preferred.
  • Previous accounting leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliations, cash management, budgeting, and job costing.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Preferred
  • CPA designation.
  • Experience with construction ERP/accounting software.
  • Experience building or leading an accounting team.
  • Experience in preparing executive financial reporting.
