What is cartoon drawing?

Cartoon drawing is the art of creating exaggerated, stylized, or humorous illustrations, often used in comics, animation, editorial cartoons, and children’s books. Cartoonists use simple lines, expressive characters, and imaginative scenarios to convey stories or ideas with visual impact. The style can range from highly simplified figures to more detailed and intricate work, depending on the artist's intent and audience. Cartoon drawing is both a popular hobby and a professional career in fields like animation, publishing, and advertising.

Cartoon artists in studio settings often need to balance their individual creative style with the established visual direction of the project. Collaborating closely with writers, animators, and art directors can require flexibility and strong communication skills to ensure consistency across all artwork.
