Job description

Senior Laravel Developer - Pod 1: Operations & Execution About Carpool

Carpool is the logistics infrastructure powering the modern car economy. We combine a proprietary technology platform with a vetted carrier network of 13,000+ transporters to move 200,000+ vehicles annually for dealerships, auctions, OEMs, and fleets nationwide. Headquartered in Atlanta, Carpool is one of the fastest-growing companies in vehicle logistics - and we’re building the team to match.

The Role

Carpool is hiring a Senior Laravel Developer for Pod 1: Operations & Execution, the engineering pod responsible for the real-time systems that move loads from creation through delivery. Reporting into engineering leadership and working closely with operations, product, and adjacent platform engineers, you’ll own core workflows across load management, vehicle management, bidding, location and mapping, and carrier outreach. This is a hands‑on senior role for someone who can ship production Laravel systems, mentor other engineers, and raise the bar on architecture, testing, observability, and AI‑assisted development.

What You’ll Do
  • Own load management systems: load lifecycle, planning board, appointments, consolidation, journey tracking, late‑load prediction, no‑insurance alerts, load board listings, and rate confirmation.
  • Build vehicle workflows: BOL generation, gate passes, pickup and delivery inspections, VIN decoding, vehicle exceptions, and vehicle tracking.
  • Develop bidding systems: bid workflow, auto‑bid acceptance rules, margin logic, operating‑hour safeguards, and bid notifications.
  • Improve location and mapping capabilities: AWS Location services, Google Maps integration, driver tracking, geocoding, geofencing, and ETA calculations.
  • Support carrier outreach: campaign creation, email composition, AI‑assisted email variation, email tracking, and conversion analytics.
  • Design features end‑to‑end with operations stakeholders, from requirements and schema design through Eloquent models, Livewire/Alpine UI, jobs and queues, tests, and rollout.
  • Optimize high‑volume, real‑time workflows with queue tuning, indexing, caching, retries, idempotency, and graceful failure handling.
  • Mentor engineers, lead rigorous code review, document pod‑level decisions, and use Cursor and Codex as daily tools while reviewing AI-generated code with clear technical judgment.
What You Bring
  • 4+ years of professional experience building production web applications in a LAMP or modern PHP stack, or a CS/software engineering background with equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • Deep Laravel and modern PHP experience across Eloquent, queues and jobs, events and listeners, notifications, Artisan commands, migrations, policies and gates, service providers, PHPUnit, and PHP 8+ language features.
  • Database and systems judgment: MySQL schema design, indexing, query plans, slow‑query tuning, scheduled jobs, retries, idempotency, race conditions, and observability.
  • Practical stack fluency with Blade, Livewire, Alpine.js, Tailwind CSS, AWS/Vapor, SQS/SNS/S3/AWS Location, Docker/Laravel Sail, GitHub Actions, and Laravel Pint.
  • Comfort using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Codex, Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude, with strong prompting habits and a healthy skepticism for generated code.
  • Strong product communication: you can sit with dispatch, customer success, carrier ops, or product stakeholders, ask the right questions, and turn fuzzy requirements into well‑defined systems.
  • A senior engineering posture: specific code‑review feedback, mentorship habits, clear written reasoning, and the ability to push back on unclear designs. Bonus points for mapping, geofencing, transportation/logistics APIs, Laravel Pennant, or logistics, transportation, supply chain, fleet, or marketplace experience.
Compensation

Carpool offers a competitive compensation package: base salary and comprehensive benefits. We’re a venture‑backed company headquartered in Buckhead at Atlanta Tech Village (ATV), a startup community with mentors and advisors built in. Carpool Logistics is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Why Carpool

Pod 1 sits close to the machinery of the business. The systems this team builds run every load, vehicle, bid, inspection, and ETA, so your work is felt by dispatchers, drivers, customers, and carriers every day.

  • Own the operational core of a vehicle logistics platform moving 200,000+ vehicles annually through a vetted network of 13,000+ transporters.
  • Work on real technical depth: real‑time tracking, geofencing, auto‑bid systems, planning boards, late‑load prediction, third‑party integrations, and queue‑driven workflows.
  • Collaborate across teams that matter, including operations, product, engineering leadership, and Pod 3 engineers responsible for platform concerns like notifications, integrations, and authentication.
  • Join an AI‑forward engineering culture where Cursor and Codex are first‑class tools, paired with strong tests, code review, and Pint‑enforced standards.
  • Work in person at Atlanta Tech Village with direct exposure to leadership, fast feedback loops, and senior‑level room to shape what gets built next.
