Custodian
Part-Time

Introduction:
We are looking for a responsible custodian to maintain and protect our facilities. This position cleans and removes trash from exhibition areas, offices, meeting rooms, shops, public areas, and restrooms across a variety of buildings. This role works on weekends, holidays, and special events on a rotating schedule. This position is classified as essential and may be asked to participate in all emergencies, ice/snow removal, and special events.
Compensation:
$15.00 - $16.00/hour, dependent on skills and experience
Expected Hours:
28-30 hours/week
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Cleans offices, kitchens, common areas, and restrooms
  • Maintains appropriate supply levels and inventories at all locations
  • Maintains all cleaning equipment. Uses proper care with all chemicals and equipment
  • Surveys all facilities for routine and emergency maintenance. Makes minor repairs and/or submits service orders. Installs light bulbs/fluorescent tubes when needed.
  • Assists with requirements for special events
  • Moves boxes and furniture
  • Responsible for the performance, quality, and quantity of all work assigned. Compiles a daily record and completes service orders
  • Assists outside contractors with professional carpet services. Cleans carpets and windows between contractor visits
  • May assist maintenance duty personnel in assisting workers on the estate before opening or after closing
  • Assists with the recycling program: is aware of materials we recycle and disposes of them properly
  • Works independently and with a minimum of supervision
  • Conducts all work in accordance with all procedures and guidelines
  • Practices and maintains safety precautions and procedures in all facilities
  • Performs other related duties as needed and carries out or directs the completion of special assignments

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of one year of custodial experience
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs, push 20lbs, bend, stretch, twist, crouch, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs

Equipment Used:
Vacuum cleaners, floor buffer, and cleaning equipment
Work Environment:
Work is conducted across indoor and outdoor environments, including historic buildings, mechanical rooms, and public spaces. Conditions may include working in tight or elevated spaces, exposure to dust, noise, and occasional temperature extremes.
Physical Requirements:
This role demands the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds. Regular climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching are required. The role includes prolonged standing and walking, sometimes on uneven or slippery surfaces.
