Job Summary
BELL Construction is hiring for Carpenters to join the team for work on Heavy Highway/Civil Construction projects. The Carpenter will build, erect, install, and repair forms, structures, and other fixtures to assist with various types of construction projects. The Carpenter will work with wood, steel, concrete, and other materials as needed. The Carpenter will also participate in the demolition and maintenance of structures and fixtures.
Job Responsibilities
  • Lays out work from reading and interpreting plans or sketches.
  • Builds wooden structures, concrete forms, false work, and pouring chute.
  • Determines type and dimensions of concrete forms from oral instructions.
  • Builds, or erects, scaffolding or rigging necessary to complete project.
  • Builds in place to line and grade, or prefabricates in units to be erected later, forms for bridge drainage structures, walls, or similar.
  • Sets up and pours columns (stems), back walls, bridge caps, and bridge beams.
  • Anchors shores and otherwise braces forms to fixed objects using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, and timbers.
  • Grades overhang jacks.
  • Verifies trueness of structure, using a plumb bob and level.
  • Shapes or cuts materials to specified measurements.
  • Drives pilin when necessary.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as needed.

Education & Experience
  • Minimum required - High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum required - Two (2) years of carpentry experience.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Punctual and dependable.
  • Able to transfer from one task to another where demands require varied experience and ability to work without close supervision.
  • Possesses reasonable mechanical ability in working with tools and materials of the trade.
  • Basic knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of structures, such as bridges and roads.
  • Able to read, understand, and work off blueprints to execution.
  • Effective time management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Hand, eye, and foot coordination.
  • Willingness to learn and be flexible.
  • Careful to avoid errors.
