This is primarily a skilled carpentry position. Journeyman Carpenter is a formal title for a
carpenter who has successfully completed a state-approved apprenticeship program and has at
least 5 years of experience in the carpentry trade. Employers strongly prefer candidates with
experience in the public sector or industry. Requires knowledge and skill in using forklifts, man
lifts, and hand and power tools required in the related trade. Knowledge of ADA requirements as
related to carpentry. Requires the ability to perform math computations needed in the trade; the
ability to read blueprints; and basic building code knowledge as it relates to work in the related
trade. Required to work overtime on both a scheduled and an emergency basis. Subject to
after-hours recall.









MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school degree.
Must be able to lift materials and other equipment as necessary.
Must have a valid Michigan driver's license and meet the requirements of the Michigan Essential
Insurance Act, District Driving Standard.
Must be a person of the highest integrity and possess a work record of reliability,
trustworthiness, and honesty.
The Master Carpenter title indicates that the individual has met all licensure requirements to
practice their trade.









DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates will provide proof of experience and training in carpentry, including prior work in the
trade, training certificates, and letters of reference from previous employers.
Have working knowledge of Work systems and the ability to prioritize maintenance needs.
Must be a "service-oriented" individual with the ability to use a computer and keep accurate
records for security needs.
Must possess excellent communication skills.
Must be able to complete written and verbal instructions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements of duties, responsibilities, and frequency
describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this position.

Responsible for scheduling, reviewing, installing, repairing, overseeing, and maintaining all
structural and aesthetic components of the building.
Review, modify, and prioritize all incoming work orders.
Coordinate work orders and work schedules with departments, sites, and contractors.
Research and study all applicable carpentry codes to ensure the District is in compliance with all
State of Michigan construction codes for all remodel and repair projects.
Recommend to the Assistant Superintendent or designee what needs to be accomplished to
eliminate ongoing carpentry issues.
Coordinate meetings between contractors and building sites regarding contract work.
Serve as a subject-matter expert and interface with project coordinators, engineers, general
contractors, and subcontractors on project design, development, and site visits.
Performing quality control inspections and certifying completed work. Provide time-and materials estimates for carpentry-related projects upon request from district sites.
