Job description

Carpenter โ€“ Custom Fabrication & Scenic Builds

At ID3, no two days in the shop are the same. Our carpenters are builders, problem-solvers, and craftsmen who take creative ideas and turn them into real structures.

From custom scenic builds and exhibits to experiential environments and specialty installations, our carpenters work on projects that challenge their skills and creativity.

If you enjoy hands-on work, building unique projects, and collaborating with a talented fabrication team, youโ€™ll fit right in.

Reviewing the Build Plan

The day typically starts in the shop reviewing project drawings, build plans, and production priorities.

Carpenters meet with team leads or project managers to understand:

  • What needs to be built that day

  • The materials required

  • The timeline for fabrication

  • Any special details that require precision

From there, the team begins preparing materials and setting up workstations.

Building Custom Projects

Once the build begins, carpenters spend the day working with wood, laminates, structural components, and specialty materials to fabricate custom structures.

This may include:

  • Measuring and cutting materials

  • Assembling scenic elements and custom structures

  • Building exhibit components and environments

  • Working with routers, table saws, drills, and other fabrication equipment

  • Collaborating with CAD detailers to ensure accuracy to drawings

At ID3, carpenters often work alongside metal fabricators, scenic artists, painters, and graphics teams to bring projects together.

Problem Solving and Collaboration

Custom fabrication often requires adjustments and creative thinking.

Carpenters work with project managers and team leads to:

  • Address design changes

  • Adjust builds to fit installation requirements

  • Ensure structural integrity and finish quality

This is where experience and craftsmanship make the biggest difference.

Preparing for Installation

As projects move toward completion, carpenters help prepare builds for:

  • Shipping

  • Installation

  • On-site assembly

The team ensures everything is accurate, safe, and ready for the next stage of the project.

What Makes a Great ID3 Carpenter

Successful carpenters at ID3 often have backgrounds in:

  • Scenic carpentry

  • Exhibit fabrication

  • Custom fabrication

  • Millwork or specialty builds

  • Theatrical or production environments

They also bring:

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to read shop drawings

  • Pride in craftsmanship

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment

At ID3, our carpenters donโ€™t just build structures โ€” they help create experiences, environments, and one-of-a-kind projects.

If you're ready to bring your skills to a shop where creativity and craftsmanship come together, we encourage you to apply.
