JOB SUMMARY:

The Carpenter is responsible for assisting with constructing and maintaining the building, and relevant site projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Miscellaneous site carpentry projects
  • Miscellaneous deficiencies and backing
  • Miscellaneous site cleanup and organization
  • Perimeter hoarding and site fence maintenance
  • Miscellaneous carpentry requirements for site safety program
  • Review blueprint, sketches, and plans for project preparation and determine required materials.
  • Receive verbal instruction to determine work assignments
  • Installation of water stop as required
  • Prep work for waterproof contractor as required
  • Block outs for mechanical/electrical contractors as required
  • Installation of metal door frames in core walls
  • Layout in building (walls, embed plates, quality control)
  • Maintain safety fence and safety items
  • Elevator hoarding (installation, maintenance, removal)
  • Base building door and hardware installation
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Control
  • Miscellaneous carpentry projects.
  • Check layouts for window anchors as required
  • Plywood backing (electrical rooms, parapets, bathrooms & lobbies)
  • Skip hoarding infill's/ main floor platform
  • Crane hoarding (installation, maintenance, removal)
  • Safety rails/handrails (installation, maintenance and removal)
  • Sidewalk hoarding (installation, maintenance and removal)

UNIQUE WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Carpenter is required to work outdoors (subject to weather conditions) and indoors as required. Traveling to job sites is required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Direction Received From: Carpenter Foreperson
  • Direction Given To: Carpenter Apprentices and Labourers

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Red Seal Journeyman's Carpenter Certification or Equivalent
  • WHMIS
  • Leadership in Safety Excellence an asset but not required
  • CSTS an asset but not required
  • Fall Protection an asset but not required
  • Operator's Ticket an asset but not required
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools etc.
  • A strong advocate of safety.
  • Previous record of working within time constraints.
  • Experience in light commercial / high-rise construction an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to apprentices and labourers
