Job description

Lead Hand / Working Foreman – Path to Project Superintendent

Unlimited Building Solutions Inc. | Full-Time, Permanent

ABOUT UNLIMITED BUILDING SOLUTIONS

Unlimited Building Solutions Inc. (UBS) is a Pickering-based general contracting and construction management firm founded in 1999. We deliver a mix of residential and commercial projects, from interior fit-outs and renovations to framing and finishing work for institutional, corporate, and residential clients. We're a small, growing team — which means the right person doesn't get stuck in a job description. They get more responsibility as they prove they're ready for it.

THE ROLE

We're looking for a Lead Hand / Working Foreman who is comfortable on both residential and commercial job sites and confident in framing and finishing work. You'll be leading the crew day-to-day — making calls on the tools, keeping the job moving, and managing the work directly with your hands when needed.

This isn't a role where every decision needs sign-off, but it's also not one where you're flying solo. You'll have good judgment about what you can handle on-site and when something needs to go to the Project Manager — schedule risk, scope questions, budget impact, anything that affects the bigger picture. Knowing the difference is what makes this role work.

We're hiring this role with an eye toward growth. For the right person, this is the entry point to a Project Superintendent position — full ownership of site leadership, client relationships, and project delivery. We'll invest in training and give you more responsibility as you're ready for it. How fast that happens is up to you.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

- Lead and work alongside the crew on residential and commercial job sites

- Perform and oversee framing and finish carpentry: layout, structural framing, trim, doors, windows, millwork

- Read and work from drawings and specs, and catch problems before they become delays

- Keep the job moving — make the calls that need to be made on-site, without waiting around

- Know when to escalate: flag scope changes, schedule risk, or budget-impacting decisions to the Project Manager

- Coordinate daily tasks across the crew and any subtrades on-site

- Maintain a safe site — enforce safety practices, run toolbox talks, follow OHSA requirements

- Track materials, tools, and equipment needs for the job

- Keep the Project Manager updated on progress and any issues

- As you grow into the role: take on more independent project ownership, direct client and property-manager communication, and subtrade coordination across multiple sites

WHAT YOU NEED

- 7+ years of hands-on experience in residential and/or commercial construction

- Strong framing and finish carpentry skills — you can do the work, not just direct it

- Comfortable reading construction drawings and specs

- Good judgment about what to decide on-site versus what to bring to your Project Manager

- Experience leading a small crew or acting as the senior tradesperson on a job

- Valid G driver's licence and reliable vehicle

- Solid understanding of job site safety practices (Working at Heights, WHMIS an asset)

- Comfortable moving between residential and commercial environments

- Genuine interest in growing into a site leadership role over time

NICE TO HAVE

- Experience with concrete forming, drywall finishing, or other adjacent trades

- Red Seal Carpenter certification or equivalent

- First Aid certification

- Any prior exposure to scheduling, client communication, or subtrade coordination

WHAT WE OFFER

- Pay range: $32–$42/hour, based on experience, with room to grow as your role grows

- A defined path toward a Project Superintendent position for the right person

- Steady, varied work across residential and commercial projects

- A small team where your work and judgment are noticed

- Direct mentorship as you take on more responsibility

UBS is an equal opportunity employer. We thank all applicants for their interest; only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

Drawing on more than three decades of construction expertise, Unlimited Building Solutions has specialized in General Contracting for a diverse range of institutional, commercial, and residential projects since its establishment in 1999.
