Carpenter
Full-Time, Non-Exempt
General Description
The Carpenter performs a diverse field of carpentry, including cabinetry and framing. Performs maintenance carpentry tasks, including but not limited to: repairing doors, assembling cubicles and furniture, building and repairing staging, and installing and repairing split rail fencing. Performs other non-carpentry activities. Some clerical skills are required for recordkeeping and completing service order forms. Occasionally works weekends and holidays. This position is classified as essential and requires participation in all emergencies, ice and snow removal, and special events.​
Compensation:
$23.00-$28.00 /hour dependent upon experience
Expected Hours:
7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Essential Duties
  • Assists journeyman-level carpenters in constructing partitions, small buildings, and concrete forms.
  • Assembles and disassembles scaffolding and other rigging, works from heights and other precarious positions.
  • Operates, maintains, and secures woodworking and painting-related tools and equipment.
  • Uses epoxies and other hazardous materials in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Practices and maintains safety regulations and procedures in and out of the shop.
  • Applies and replaces roof coverings; repairs leaks in roofing systems.
  • Applies and repairs the guttering system.
  • Installs ceiling and floor coverings.
  • Fabricates and repairs tables, chairs, and other non-exhibition office furniture.
  • Installs and repairs doors, windows, locks, and related hardware.
  • Assists the paint shop in painting-related duties as required.
  • Assists in setting up and removing staging and other apparatus as required for special events.
  • Assists in other requirements related to special events, such as parking cars, directing visitors, and traffic.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.
  • Responsible for the performance, quality, and quantity of all work assigned.
  • Compiles a daily record and completes service orders.
  • Conducts all work in accordance with all procedures and guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as requested by the immediate supervisor and carries out or directs the completion of special assignments.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Must have a minimum of five years of experience in carpentry-related trades.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural drawings.
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Assorted hand, power, and air tools and saws.
Work Environment:
Work is conducted in a mix of indoor and outdoor environments, including historic buildings, mechanical rooms, and public spaces. Conditions may include working in tight or elevated spaces, exposure to dust, noise, and occasional temperature extremes.
Physical Requirements:
This role demands the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds. Regular climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching are required. The role includes prolonged standing and walking, sometimes on uneven or slippery surfaces.
