A carpenter is a skilled tradesperson who constructs, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures made of wood and other materials. Their work can range from building frameworks for houses and buildings to installing cabinetry, doors, and windows. Carpenters read blueprints, measure and cut materials, and use various hand and power tools to complete their tasks. They often work on construction sites, but may also perform renovation or custom woodworking projects in homes or businesses. Good carpenters need strong math skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of building codes and safety practices.
