Earlham College is seeking a Career Coach to join our team. The Career Coach position provides holistic, student-centered career coaching and facilitation that helps students explore possibilities, design meaningful next steps, implement plans through action and experience, and realize connections between their Earlham education, their goals, and their future. Grounded in Earlham’s Epic Journey, this role supports students as they navigate career development as an active, reflective, and evolving Revised 07/22/2026 process. Career Coaches help students build the curiosity, confidence, adaptability, and practical skills needed to make meaningful choices in a changing world. Through individual coaching, group facilitation, course instruction, and career education programming, Career Coaches help students clarify their professional identities, test possibilities through experience, develop job and internship search strategies, create effective application materials, and prepare for interviews, networking, graduate study, and post-graduation success. Career Coaches also contribute to campus-wide career education initiatives by developing curriculum, supporting Epic Journey programming, and collaborating with faculty and staff to embed career discernment and experiential learning across the student experience.

Career Coaching — 40%

• Provide individual and small-group career coaching to students and recent graduates on career exploration, major and career discernment, job and internship search strategies, graduate school planning, networking, interviewing, and professional identity development.
• Support students in developing resumes, CVs, cover letters, personal statements, graduate school materials, LinkedIn profiles, portfolios, and other application materials.
• Provide coaching and advising support related to Epic Advantage, including helping students clarify goals, prepare for the application process, connect experiences to career discernment, and make use of their funded experience.
• Use career readiness tools and resources to support student exploration, planning, and action.
• Develop and curate student-facing resources that support career exploration, professional development, job and internship searches, and Epic Advantage preparation.
• Maintain accurate appointment schedules, notes, records, and follow-up communication related to student coaching.
• Stay current with labor market trends, graduate and professional school pathways, internship and research opportunities, and emerging practices in career education.

Curriculum, Course Instruction & Academic Integration — 30%

• Facilitate sections of Epic 171, Epic 175, or other career education courses connected to the Epic Journey.
• Collaborate with CCE staff to develop, revise, and assess career education curriculum and course materials.
• Coordinate with coaching colleagues to ensure consistent, cohesive, and high-quality course delivery across sections.
• Collaborate with the Director of Career Education and teaching faculty to embed and deliver career education experiences into academic courses, departments, and programs.
• Facilitate career education workshops or classroom-based learning experiences connected to course instruction, faculty partnerships, and curricular integration.

Epic Journey Program Support — 15%

• Contribute to the development and delivery of career education content for Epic Signature Programs connected to the Epic Journey, including New Student Orientation, Epic Expo, First-Year Engagement, Epic Advantage, and Epic Launch.
• Facilitate student-facing sessions within Epic Journey programs, including workshops, small-group activities, presentations, and reflection-based learning experiences.
• Assist with student outreach, preparation materials, facilitation resources, and follow-up connected to Epic Journey programs.
• Participate in program assessment and reflection by helping gather feedback, identify student learning patterns, and recommend improvements to future programming.

Professional Practice, Operations, and Other Duties — 15%

• Actively participate in staff meetings, supervision, team planning, and shared office operations.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, alumni, employers, community partners, and graduate or professional school contacts in ways that support student career discernment and experiential learning.
• Participate in assigned campus committees, scholarship or grant selection processes, and institutional initiatives connected to the CCE’s mission.
• Contribute to assessment, reporting, data tracking, student outreach, marketing, and technology systems, including Handshake and other career education platforms.
• Participate in professional development opportunities and professional networks related to career education, experiential learning, coaching, and liberal arts career development.
• Keep informed of academic programs, major requirements, campus initiatives, and changes that affect student career planning and Epic Advantage preparation.
• Complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least one year of experience in college-level career advising, career coaching, student development, counseling, experiential education, human resources, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated skill in student-centered career coaching, advising, facilitation, or related developmental work with college students or emerging professionals.
• Strong verbal, written, and facilitation skills, with the ability to help students articulate the value of a liberal arts education, experiential learning, and transferable skills.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, employers, and community partners.
• Experience communicating with and supporting students from a wide range of backgrounds, identities, experiences, and career interests.
• Clear understanding of, and affinity with, the mission and values of a private, residential liberal arts college.
• Experience using digital tools and technology.
• Commitment to high visibility, accessibility, and engagement with students and the campus community.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, student-centered environment.

Preferred

• Master’s degree or graduate study in higher education, counseling, psychology, student affairs, learning design, human resources, or a closely related field.
• Three to five years of experience in college-level career advising, career coaching, student development, counseling, experiential education, or human resources.
• Knowledge of, or professional practice with, career development theories and approaches such as Life Design and Chaos Theory of Careers.
• Experience working in a liberal arts college or similar higher education setting.
• Experience developing, facilitating, and assessing programs, workshops, courses, or other student learning experiences.
• Familiarity with Handshake or another career education CRM.
