Job description

Overview
MPR Associates, Inc. (MPR), a thriving multi-discipline, specialty engineering services and consulting firm founded in 1964, is seeking talented engineers of all disciplines to join our innovative and dynamic team. If you have an excellent academic background, desire to grow professionally, seek a rewarding career, and want to be engaged in important and technically stimulating projects which benefit society and make an impact, MPR may be the right company for you.
General Job Description
MPR has a wide and growing client base in the fields of electric power (generation, both renewable and nuclear, as well as transmission & distribution), federal services, and health and life sciences. We work throughout the United States as well as internationally. Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, we also have offices in East Lyme, Connecticut, Burlington, Massachusetts, and Salt Lake City, Utah. Early Career Engineers will begin their careers at our Alexandria, Virginia, office location with opportunities to relocate to one of our branch offices in the future.
We seek highly qualified, degreed engineers from a variety of engineering disciplines, including:
  • Electrical (Power)
  • Electrical (Embedded Systems)
  • Mechanical
  • Chemical
  • Nuclear
  • Systems
  • Materials Science
  • Instrumentation & Controls
  • Civil/Structural
  • Software Engineering

Duties/Responsibilities
Typical projects at MPR last from a few weeks to several years and are completed by project teams of 2-10 engineers. At any one point in time, a typical MPR engineer may be engaged in 2-3 projects simultaneously, which provides diverse and fulfilling work experience solving technical problems, developing, and implementing innovative solutions. Examples include:
  • Applying insight, management skills, advanced technology, physical system modelling, and/or data analytics to improve facility or equipment operations, maintenance, reliability, and/or performance.
  • Applying technical and project/risk management skills to effectively deploy new technology and/or major capital projects.
  • Specifying, designing, procuring, and testing novel power, process industry, or medical device systems or components.

MPR regularly provides training opportunities - many of which occur on-the-job with senior engineers who are recognized, industry-wide, as experts in their fields. Some of MPR's most interesting projects provide the opportunity to travel to client sites, test facilities, or supplier's facilities. Employees are expected to work primarily in one of our several offices and should expect a moderate (10-20%) amount of travel based on the specific requirements of their projects. Expected career progression includes developing technical expertise as well as increasing responsibility for project management, supervision, client relations, and business development.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is an engineer with a solid working knowledge of engineering first principles who is a proficient writer and communicator and can work both independently and with others. The candidate should be able to communicate and work closely with senior engineers and clients to solve problems. The candidate should also have an interest in working at client locations or other sites as projects require.
Successful candidates will possess an excellent academic record and be highly motivated proactive individuals. In addition, successful candidates will have the following skills and capabilities:
  • Robust analytical skills, including the ability and passion to problem solve
  • Aptitude to work outside of a single engineering discipline and quickly learn new concepts
  • Advanced computer skills preferred, including familiarity with programming languages such as C++ or Python, analysis programs such as Ansys or MATLAB-Simulink® and design programs such as SolidWorks
  • Persistent, questioning attitude and ability to accept that in others
  • Follow through with all tasks and assignments in a timely manner
  • Attention to detail
  • Growth mindset with a high desire to grow as an engineering professional
  • Propensity and skills to lead, communicate, and exceed client expectations

The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $110,000 annually. Actual compensation is based on several factors, including but not limited to experience, internal parity, education, and skills. We offer comprehensive healthcare benefits (medical, dental, vision), flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts, a 401(k) and profit sharing, as well as paid time off.
MPR Associates, Inc. is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, who participates in E-Verify. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, veteran's status, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information or any other classification as required by applicable laws. MPR is a certified Virginia Values Veterans (V3) employer.
