Job description

Henry Ford Health is seeking a leader to serve as the Section Head of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology within the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain Management & Perioperative Medicine. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a world-class team of anesthesiologists and clinical professionals in a tertiary/quaternary care academic medical center renowned for its expertise in complex cardiac surgery, cardiac and lung transplantation, interventional cardiology, and its cutting-edge structural heart program. Henry Ford Health is affiliated with Michigan State University and Wayne State University as academic partners.

The successful candidate will have a rare opportunity to help shape the future of intra- and peri-operative cardiovascular care at one of the nations leading academic medical centers. The Section Head will oversee clinical care, research, education, and the development of innovative anesthesia protocols within the cardiovascular domain. They will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons, cardiologists, and intensivists, to provide exceptional anesthesia services for high acuity patients, including those undergoing heart surgery, transplantations, mechanical circulatory support, interventional cardiology, and structural heart interventions.

Qualifications:

  • Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in Anesthesiology.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Cardiovascular Anesthesiology.
  • Board Certification in Advanced Transesophageal Echocardiography.
  • An additional Critical Care fellowship is welcome but not required.
  • Approximately 5 8 years of clinical experience in cardiovascular anesthesiology, with substantial experience in complex cardiac surgery, cardiac transplantation, and structural heart interventions is expected.
  • Ability to obtain or soon advance to the Associate Professorial rank.
  • Proven leadership experience, ideally within an academic medical center, with a demonstrated track record of managing teams and improving clinical outcomes.
  • Strong commitment to medical education and the development of the next generation of anesthesiologists.
  • Experience in clinical research, with a focus on cardiovascular anesthesia or related fields is desired.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to work effectively within a high-pressure, fast-paced clinical environment and navigate complex, multi-disciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cutting-edge structural heart interventions such as trans-catheter valve repair/replacement and other advanced cardiology techniques.
  • Experience in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety in a high acuity setting.
  • A history of mentorship, teaching, and scholarly activity.
  • Qualifications for an academic rank of Associate Professor or higher is desirable.
  • A track record of research funding and publishing high-impact clinical research is also desirable.
