Job description

Responsibilities: Directs and coordinates all operating, production/processing, receiving, and shipping activities for a specialty metals processing center. Other duties may be assigned in addition to those listed below.

  • Maintains safe operations by establishing and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and implements quality standards, methods, facilities, policies and procedures by studying product requirements. Determines equipment and facility budgets.
  • Confers with management to establish and implement production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and obtain information necessary to complete required processing; ensures that shipment of customer orders meet delivery dates/lead times.
  • Maintains lead times at levels required by customers.
  • Coordinates activities with the other regions.
  • Works with select customers to identify and meet their needs.
  • Develops operations production plan by coordinating requirements with sales, purchasing, and traffic functions.
  • Completes production plan by establishing priorities, scheduling activities and employees, monitoring progress, and resolving problems.
  • Coordinates processing activities with sales, purchasing, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
  • Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements, conferring with manufacturers, contracting for special maintenance services, maintaining equipment inventories, evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Fosters a culture/environment of Continuous Improvement Process (CIP).
  • Designs and provides employee training/development programs.
  • Coordinates with the Regional General and Branch Manager to ensure that adequate security measures are established in each location.
  • Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
  • Complies with legal requirements by enforcing policies and procedures, i.e., OSHA and EPA compliance.

Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to work in a “team” environment and must be hands-on.

  • Full engagement of all employees, change agent, problem solver, closer/doer, self-starter, clear on expectations, responsible and accountable.
  • Customer driven, “one company” concept (what we do is by company, how we do it is by location), goal/results oriented, team based-decentralized, fast/delegated down decision making, open communications, measurement of all key processes and accountability.
  • BS Degree in Manufacturing, with previous metals service center experience performing the duties and responsibilities listed above.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to freely determine ratios.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to effectively problem solve while maintaining a skillful, professional demeanor.
  • Effective communication skills which include verbal and written
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office
