Job description

Position Summary

The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing manufacturing equipment and facility systems within a carbon graphite manufacturing environment. This position supports production operations by ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and maintaining a safe and efficient workplace.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and industrial maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment and be comfortable working on a wide variety of production equipment, CNC machinery, ovens/furnaces, dust collection systems, pumps, compressors, and facility systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair industrial manufacturing equipment and machinery
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on production equipment
  • Repair and maintain:
    • CNC machines
    • Industrial ovens/furnaces
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    • Vacuum systems
    • Pumps and compressors
    • Dust collection systems
    • Conveyors and mechanical drives
    • Material handling equipment
  • Read and interpret:
    • Mechanical drawings
    • Equipment manuals
    • Schematics
    • Blueprints
  • Install and align motors, bearings, shafts, gearboxes, and related components
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and basic machining as needed
  • Troubleshoot electrical controls and work alongside electricians when required
  • Inspect equipment for wear, safety concerns, and operational deficiencies
  • Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and emergency repairs
  • Maintain maintenance logs and repair documentation
  • Assist with machine installations, upgrades, and facility improvement projects
  • Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements
  • Maintain clean and organized maintenance and work areas
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and efficiency

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Experience in heavy manufacturing, machining, metals, carbon graphite, or industrial production environments strongly preferred
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting abilities
  • Experience with:
    • Hydraulics
    • Pneumatics
    • Bearings
    • Motors
    • Gearboxes
    • Belts/chains
    • Industrial pumps
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting experience preferred
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred
  • Ability to safely use maintenance tools and equipment
  • Strong understanding of preventative maintenance practices
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Education & Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Technical/trade school training preferred
  • OSHA or safety certifications are a plus
  • Forklift and scissor lift experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work in hot, dusty, noisy, and industrial manufacturing environments
  • Ability to work overtime or emergency call-ins when required

Work Environment

This position operates in a manufacturing carbon graphite facility environment and may involve exposure to:

  • Industrial machinery
  • Carbon/graphite dust
  • Heat from ovens/furnaces
  • Noise and vibration
  • Moving mechanical equipment

Proper PPE must be worn at all times.
