Job description

Company Information: Carbo is a leading technology and service company offering innovative solutions across various industries. We develop technologies that enhance oil and gas production from previously uneconomical reserves.
Shift Information: This is primarily a Monday-Friday role during standard business hours. Because the plants operate continuously, occasional calls or support may be needed during off-hours or weekends to help resolve urgent plant issues.
Primary Plant Locations:
2295 Wriley Rd, McIntyre, GA 31054
1880 Dent Rd Toomsboro, GA 31090
We do not offer VISA sponsorship.
Position Summary: The Plant Engineer provides technical and project support across CARBO's Middle Georgia plant operations. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer or experienced multi-craft maintenance professional who enjoys variety, practical problem solving, and supporting more than one facility. The Plant Engineer will help design, troubleshoot, improve, and implement solutions involving industrial equipment, process flow, pumps, motors, valves, power transmission systems, kilns, burner systems, electrical and control systems, and continuous process operations.
Why This Role Stands Out: This is not a narrow engineering desk job or a repetitive single-area assignment. You will support two facilities, work on a wide range of equipment and projects, and have the flexibility to move between priorities as plant needs evolve. For someone who enjoys high-variety work, practical problem solving, and seeing the direct impact of their ideas in the field, this role offers meaningful visibility and contribution across the operation.
Key Roles/Responsibilities:
  • Support engineering and project work across both the McIntyre and Toomsboro facilities, helping plant leaders prioritize and complete high-impact projects.
  • Design, improve, and troubleshoot systems related to pumps, motors, valves, belts, pulleys, sprockets, power transmission components, kiln systems, burner trains, and other industrial process equipment.
  • Help address continuous process challenges such as material flow, plugging issues, flow rates, water transfer systems, blungers, and process bottlenecks.
  • Support priority projects such as new milling systems, gray water transfer improvements, pump upgrades, concrete repair, kiln repair, and other mechanical or process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support for electrical, instrumentation, control, HMI (human-machine interface), Wonderware, Burner Management System, 480-volt three-phase electrical systems, VFDs, and related plant systems.
  • Help troubleshoot recurring equipment, controls, and process issues while balancing multiple projects across multiple plants.
  • Partner with maintenance supervisors, maintenance technicians, operations, production, quality, contractors, and vendors to identify practical solutions and keep plant operations moving.
  • Develop and implement modifications that improve safety, reliability, production capability, quality, yield, cycle time, and operating cost.
  • Assist with capital project requests, project scopes, vendor quotes, contractor coordination, installation, commissioning, start-up, and employee training for new or modified equipment.
  • Complete work in accordance with sound engineering practices, safety expectations, and applicable environmental and regulatory requirements.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • At least two (2) years of Hands-on industrial experience in a plant, maintenance, manufacturing, mining, minerals, chemical, mechanical, electrical, or continuous process environment is required.
  • A college degree is not required, but candidates with a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field AND the required experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of industrial equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, belts, pulleys, sprockets, gearboxes, conveyors, power transmission systems, and process piping.
  • Experience with continuous process operations, material movement, flow rates, slurry or water transfer, kilns, burner trains, or Burner Management Systems is a plus.
  • Experience with electrical and control systems, including HMI, Wonderware, 480-volt three-phase systems, VFDs, instrumentation, or process control systems is a plus.
  • Project-minded professional who can manage multiple priorities, coordinate contractors and vendors, communicate clearly, and follow projects through installation, commissioning, and start-up.
  • Field-oriented problem solver who is comfortable spending time in the plant, working directly with operators, maintenance teams, and supervisors to understand and resolve issues.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with plant leadership to determine priorities across two facilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and similar office software products.
  • Commitment to safe work practices, environmental compliance, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions:
  • Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
  • The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting on a forklift or other warehouse equipment.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
  • Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing protection, and hard hats when needed.
  • Able to work under stressful conditions at times.
  • React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
  • Must be able to move and lift to 40-pound wooden skid or pallet.
  • Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
  • Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.

Benefits:
  • Competitive Compensation Package
