What is a car show model?

A Car Show Model is a promotional model who represents automotive brands at car shows, trade expos, and other events. Their role is to attract attention to vehicles, engage with attendees, provide basic product information, and enhance the brand’s image. While they may pose for photos and interact with potential customers, they are not salespeople but rather brand ambassadors. Strong communication skills, professionalism, and an engaging personality are key traits for success in this role.

What does a car show model do?

A typical day for a Car Show Model involves arriving ahead of the event to prepare, reviewing scripts or product details, and ensuring a polished appearance for brand representation. Throughout the day, you will interact with event attendees, pose for photographs, present vehicles, and answer basic questions about the products. You may also coordinate with event staff and other models to facilitate presentations or demonstrations on stage. The work environment is lively and fast-paced, requiring both professionalism and stamina to maintain a positive attitude throughout long event hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the car show model position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Car Show Model, you need excellent presentation skills, personal grooming, and a professional appearance, often coupled with prior modeling or promotional experience. Familiarity with car show protocols, microphone use for live presentations, and basic automotive terminology are helpful but not always mandatory. Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, and the ability to engage confidently with diverse audiences will make you stand out. These skills are crucial for representing automotive brands positively, attracting attendees, and effectively communicating key product features.

How do you become a car show model?

To become a car show model, individuals typically need to have a presentable appearance, good communication skills, and confidence. Modeling experience or familiarity with automotive events can be helpful, and maintaining a professional portfolio or attending casting calls can increase opportunities. Some positions may require age verification or specific dress code adherence.

How much do car show models make?

Car show models typically earn between $15 and $50 per hour, with some earning higher rates for high-profile events or experienced models. Compensation can vary based on the event, location, and the model's experience and appearance. Many models also receive perks like travel expenses or free products.

Job description

Senior Product Manager - Insurance & Ancillary

The Opportunity:

Every year, millions of people come to TrueCar to save time and money buying a car. All of them need insurance, and the way they have to buy it is broken: long duplicate forms, underwriting delays, sales calls they did not ask for, and handoffs to third parties who start the whole thing over again.

TrueCar is building embedded insurance to fix that. As a Senior Product Manager, you will build and own the digital product end-to-end, including the flows that let a customer receive an instant quote, bind a policy, manage coverage, and add vehicle protection without ever leaving TrueCar’s platform.

We already have the distribution, the brand, and the partners. What we need is a Senior Product Manager who can turn that into a digital experience our customers will love. This is a zero-to-one build opportunity, with our Engineering and Design teams alongside you. You will report to the VP, Insurance & Ancillary.

This is a hybrid role that requires frequent in-person collaboration in our Santa Monica, CA headquarters office.

How you will contribute to TrueCar’s success:

  • You build and own the digital product end-to-end. You drive the vision, technical roadmap, product specifications, and execution for TrueCar’s embedded digital insurance platform across quote, bind, and servicing.
  • Re-engineer how customers interact with insurance. Rethink legacy insurance processes from first principles. Eliminate redundant questionnaires, manual data entry, and processing delays, replacing them with a streamlined experience customers will love.
  • Deploy AI across all consumer touchpoints. Embed generative AI models, machine learning, and automated processes into quoting, product selection, and policy servicing.
  • Architect partner integrations. You partner with internal teams and external partners to design, build, and optimize integrations.
  • Extend into ancillary products. Apply the same approach to additional products that help customers protect their vehicle and manage the cost of owning it.

Your Expertise:

  • Proven product management experience. Or equivalent experience building and shipping digital products people love to use.
  • A first-principles product mindset. You take long and complex multi-step processes apart and rebuild them in simple consumer digital experiences, rather than accepting how the industry does it today.
  • Technical & API Integration fluency. You read API docs, specify integration contracts and data schemas, and hold your own with engineers on how the backend should behave.
  • You have shipped AI and automation into real products. LLMs, document and data extraction, or self-service automation flows that removed operational friction.
  • A data-backed thinker who ships. You have experience shipping zero-to-one digital products on fast schedules. You write precise specs, prioritize a technical backlog, and dig into the analytics yourself, backing assumptions and recommendations with hard numbers rather than instinct.
  • Logic-first product thinking. You are skilled at looking at a visual prototype and instantly identifying the underlying functional requirements and user experience flows.
  • Built digital auto insurance flows from quote to bind, at a carrier, MGA, or an embedded platform.
  • Shipped a regulated consumer product that runs on partner APIs and automated underwriting.

TrueCar does not accept unsolicited agency submissions.

Who We Are

TrueCar is a leading digital automotive platform that uses technology to help car buyers save time and money through a nationwide network of Certified Dealers. Founded in 2005 by Scott Painter, TrueCar was built on the belief that serving membership and affinity organizations central to the car-buying process, including lenders, insurers, and dealers, enables a more valuable auto-buying experience for new and used vehicles. As part of its platform, TrueCar powers auto-buying programs for over 250 leading brands, including Sam’s Club, AAA, and more than 100 credit unions.

We are seeking talented individuals who are energized by our commitment to save consumers time and money. We’ve stripped away typical corporate "bloat" to build a culture rooted in high performance and accountability for results. As a member of the TrueCar Crew, you can have a real & direct impact on our success as we continue to evolve the car buying experience.

Your TrueCar Experience

At TrueCar, we offer our Crew members the flexibility to split their work time between home and the office. While many days are remote, we expect our Crew to show up for the moments that matter—gathering in person when a project needs that extra collaborative spark because nothing replaces the energy of solving big problems in the same room. We provide you with comfortable shared workspaces in our Santa Monica headquarters office and other regional locations and equip you with a professional home office setup along with monthly reimbursements for your essentials, like phone and internet.

As a TrueCar Crew member, you will receive excellent benefits and perks that include, but are not limited to:

  • 100% employer-paid health, vision, and dental premiums
  • a 401(k) plan with company contributions
  • a wellness reimbursement account
  • learning & development reimbursement opportunities
  • flexible PTO for exempt TrueCar Crew Members
  • generous PTO accrual policy for non-exempt TrueCar Crew Members
  • 14 company-paid holidays
  • 2 floating holidays

We also understand the importance of recharging, so we offer flexible PTO for exempt TrueCar Crew Members and a generous PTO accrual policy for non-exempt TrueCar Crew Members, in addition to 14 company-paid holidays and 2 floating holidays.

At TrueCar, we believe in the power of diversity to create a deeper understanding of our consumers and partners, driving innovation in our products. We welcome a workforce that reflects the diversity of car-buying consumers and encourage everyone interested in our mission to apply. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. We will consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records in accordance with applicable law. Additionally, TrueCar will provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities.
