What is a car key programmer?

Car key programmers are professionals who specialize in programming, duplicating, and reprogramming car keys and key fobs for vehicles. They use specialized tools and software to sync new keys or remotes with a vehicle’s immobilizer system, ensuring that only authorized keys can start the car. Car key programmers are often called upon when someone loses their keys, needs a spare, or encounters issues with their existing car keys or remotes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a car key programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Car Key Programmer, you need a solid understanding of automotive electrical systems, key programming procedures, and diagnostic techniques, often supported by vocational training or certification in automotive locksmithing. Proficiency with key programming devices, diagnostic scan tools, and specialized software is essential for the role. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication with customers help set top professionals apart. These skills and qualities are crucial for accurately resolving key and immobilizer issues, ensuring vehicle security, and delivering excellent customer service.

Staying updated with the latest technology and software tools is essential, as newer vehicles often introduce advanced security systems. Additionally, working in environments like roadside assistance or automotive shops can require quick problem-solving and adaptability, especially when customers are locked out or need urgent help. Collaboration with locksmiths, mechanics, and dealership staff is also common, making strong communication skills valuable in this role.

Do you need a license to program car keys?

Car key programmers typically do not require a formal license to operate, but they must have proper training and knowledge of automotive security systems. In some regions, certain tools or services may be regulated, and technicians may need certifications or licenses to perform advanced programming or work legally on vehicles. It's important to follow local laws and manufacturer guidelines when programming car keys.

How much does a car key programmer make?

Car key programmers typically earn between $30,000 and $60,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and whether they work in a repair shop or as mobile technicians. Job description

FCP Euro is seeking a Capacity Analyst who will play a critical role in monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on capacity utilization across fulfillment centers to ensure optimal operational performance. This position is responsible for creating visibility into key metrics—including storage utilization, saturation levels, throughput rates, labor capacity, equipment efficiency, inventory forecasts, and order volume trends—to identify risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement. The Capacity Analyst will develop and maintain a core suite of inventory optimization and capacity planning reports, dashboards, and scenario-based forecasting models, working cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Planning, Engineering, and Finance to support data-driven decision making.

FCP Euro is the trusted home and online destination for European car owners and professionals. Family-owned since 1986, our mission is to make European vehicle ownership more enjoyable and enduring by delivering the highest quality parts, knowledge, and support people can rely on. At FCP Euro, we exist to empower owners and professionals with confidence and support to care for their European cars properly. That commitment has made us more than a retailer, but a long-term partner for those who value quality, expertise, and trust throughout the life of their vehicle.

 Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Capacity Planning and Management: Create short, mid, and long-term storage capacity plans; identify bin size, count, and inventory storage requirements over 1-5 year horizons; and collaborate with engineering on large-scale racking design changes.
  • Inventory Optimization & Slotting: Develop and implement slotting strategies to drive operational efficiency, working closely with operations to monitor and adjust these strategies based on data-driven insights.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Lead the creation of core capacity and slotting metrics, implementing dashboards to provide clear visibility into the health of network capacity and slotting performance.

Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience within ecommerce warehousing.
  • 4-year college degree required; MBA is a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in inventory slotting and inventory capacity planning.
  • 3+ years of experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
  • Expert-level experience with Microsoft Excel, data analytics, and business intelligence toolsets.
  • Demonstrated experience with taking large/complex data sets and transforming them into actionable insights.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex data to various stakeholders.

 Benefits & Perks

  • Company-subsidized Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance, including a zero-premium Medical plan and Company HSA contribution.
  • 120 hours of PTO (Paid Time Off), 40 hours of Paid Sick Time, plus Company Holidays.
  • 401(k) with Company deposit and match.
  • Discounted prices on our catalog of European car parts.

 Compensation

This is an exempt role with a base salary of $70,000 - $90,000 depending on experience, with a total compensation opportunity of $71,350 to $91,500 annually.
