Job description

Heavy Highway Project Manager
Barber Brothers Contracting Co., LLC is in search of a qualified candidate to fill a newly created Project Manager position in the Baton Rouge, LA area. This position represents a tremendous career growth opportunity for a qualified manager with experience in the Heavy Highway industry. This opportunity allows the right individual a chance to independently manage the complete construction process of multiple projects in a geographic area.

The ideal candidate should have a noticeable passion for our industry and experience successfully managing the completion of a variety of fast paced construction projects. Ideal strengths for this Project Manager position include the ability to make accurate and timely decisions, the ability to maintain a schedule while multitasking, and the ability to independently manage while incorporating general guidance from senior management.

This position will be responsible for the management of the complete construction process, including the scheduling, performance, coordination and supervision of all the employees and resources assigned to the projects. The Project Manager will consistently incorporate and reinforce the company’s safety initiatives into projects.

Other duties include:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the project plans, specifications and schedules as they relate to that portion of the work assigned; and review with crews at start of and throughout the project.
  • Monitor quality of work and assure that correct construction procedures are followed and that work is in compliance with the plans and specifications.
  • Inspect work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and take any corrective action needed.
  • Plan and schedule all subcontractor’s needed and assigned to the project. Ensure they are building to the plans and specifications and following all safety guidelines.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures.
  • Track and capture quantities completed on the project and review for accuracy before submission
  • Identify safety hazards and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  • Plan and coordinate purchasing of materials needed to assure that an adequate supply of tools, materials and equipment are available.
  • Ensure that construction equipment is correctly operated and maintained.
  • Have a working knowledge of scheduling, material control, unit man hour performance.
  • Understand and implement lockout/tag out procedures in a safe manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Five plus years of Heavy Highway Experience.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • BS in Engineering or Construction Mgmt. is preferred.
  • Must possess a current driver’s license.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, amp; Outlook.
  • Experience with HCSS, Primavera P6, and Viewpoint is a plus.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background and drug screen.
