What is a CAPM?

A CAPM job typically refers to entry-level project management roles that require or prefer the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification. The CAPM certification, offered by PMI (Project Management Institute), validates foundational knowledge of project management principles, processes, and terminology. Professionals with this certification may work as project coordinators, project assistants, or junior project managers, supporting teams in planning, executing, and monitoring projects. It is an excellent stepping stone for those looking to advance into more senior project management roles.

What does a CAPM do?

As a CAPM, you’ll typically support project managers by assisting with scheduling, coordinating resources, tracking progress, and managing documentation for various projects. Your daily responsibilities may include updating project timelines, preparing status reports, facilitating team meetings, and ensuring that project milestones are met on time. Most CAPMs work in collaborative environments, often communicating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to keep projects moving smoothly. Over time, hands-on experience in this role can open up opportunities for advancement to higher-level positions in project management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CAPM?

To thrive as a CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management), you need a solid understanding of project management principles, problem-solving abilities, and a relevant educational background—often paired with CAPM certification. Familiarity with project management software such as Microsoft Project, Jira, or Trello is typically required. Strong organizational skills, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset are key soft skills that support success in this role. These skills enable CAPMs to efficiently assist project managers, keep projects on track, and contribute positively to team objectives.

Can I get a job with a CAPM?

A Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) can help you qualify for entry-level project management roles across various industries. Employers often look for the CAPM certification, along with relevant skills and experience, to demonstrate foundational project management knowledge. However, job availability also depends on factors like location, industry demand, and your overall experience.

Is CAPM entry-level?

Yes, the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) is considered an entry-level certification for project managers. It is designed for individuals with little to no project management experience and typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent and some project management education or experience. The CAPM helps demonstrate foundational knowledge of project management principles and tools.

Is the Certified Associate in Project Management worth getting?

The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) is a recognized entry-level certification for project management professionals, demonstrating foundational knowledge of project processes and terminology. It can enhance job prospects and credibility for roles such as project coordinator or assistant project manager, especially when combined with relevant experience and skills. However, its value depends on the individual's career goals and the industry they work in.

Job description

Description

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager contractor to join the Marketing Operations team. This fixed-term role will support the end-to-end artwork development process for CPG Brands and work collaboratively with commercialization, creative, project management, and external agency partners to lay the groundwork for successful delivery of packaging artwork across the portfolio.

Role Summary

As Project Manager within Marketing Operations, this role serves as a critical connector between the commercialization team, creative team, and cross-functional stakeholders to streamline the artwork development lifecycle for CPG Brands. The primary focus is creating and maintaining project plans, ensuring accuracy of information flowing through the artwork pipeline, identifying and removing bottlenecks, building relationships with stakeholders to streamline processes, and ultimately improving artwork turnaround time. This role helps to bring structure and clarity to a fast-paced, high-volume workflow where attention to detail and proactive communication are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed project plans for end-to-end artwork development, tracking milestones, dependencies, and deliverables across the commercialization and internal & external creative teams.

• Support the artwork pipeline by validating accuracy of information (specifications, copy, regulatory content, brand guidelines) at each stage to reduce rework and revision cycles.

• Identify and resolve bottlenecks in the artwork workflow by proactively flagging blockers, escalating risks, and coordinating with stakeholders to keep projects on track.

• Partner with the commercialization team to ensure artwork briefs are complete, accurate, and submitted on time, enabling the creative team to begin work without delays.

• Coordinate cross-functional communication between brand, regulatory, packaging engineering, and creative production teams throughout the artwork lifecycle.

• Track and report on artwork turnaround metrics, highlighting trends, improvement opportunities, and progress against cycle-time reduction goals.

• Facilitate status meetings and provide regular updates to leadership on project health, risks, and resource needs.

• Support process documentation and continuous improvement initiatives to drive repeatable, scalable artwork workflows.

• Manage competing priorities across multiple concurrent artwork projects, ensuring deadlines are met without compromising quality.

Basic Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in project management, program management, or a related coordination role.

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Supply Chain, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Demonstrated ability to create and manage project plans, timelines, and cross-functional deliverables.

• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

• Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Asana, Workfront, or similar).

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in CPG, grocery, retail, or consumer packaged goods industries.

• Familiarity with creative production workflows, packaging artwork development, or print production processes.

• Knowledge of packaging specifications, regulatory requirements, or labeling standards.

• PMP, CAPM, or other project management certification.

• Experience with Workfront and proofing tools such as ProofHQ.

• Demonstrated ability to earn trust quickly and build productive working relationships across distributed teams.

• Bias for action with a track record of identifying process gaps and implementing improvements.

• Curiosity-driven mindset with a willingness to learn new tools, systems, and domain knowledge rapidly.
