Job description

The Accounting Manager plays a critical role in managing the financial operations of a cannabis cultivation business. This role involves overseeing accounting functions, budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow, payroll, and tax compliance while ensuring adherence to cannabis-specific regulations and internal controls. The Accounting Manager leads a medium to large team of accounting professionals to deliver accurate financial insights that support strategic decision-making.

Oversee all accounting and financial operations, including AP/AR, payroll, budgeting, cash flow, financial reporting, tax compliance, and internal controls. Lead and develop the accounting team while providing management with accurate financial analysis and recommendations. Manage cannabis-specific accounting and compliance requirements, including Metrc reconciliation, inventory valuation, cost accounting/COGS, production and general ledger reconciliation, month-end inventory close, variance investigation, and audit documentation. Ensure accurate tracking of raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, and inventory adjustments while maintaining compliance with applicable cannabis financial and recordkeeping requirements.

Strongly Preferred

Previous financial leadership or senior accounting experience within the cannabis industry, with demonstrated knowledge of cannabis inventory accounting, cultivation/manufacturing costs, multi-entity operations, regulatory reporting, and cannabis-related tax considerations.

Experience within another highly regulated, inventory-intensive industry may be considered for candidates who demonstrate the ability to quickly develop expertise in cannabis-specific financial and regulatory requirements.

Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in candidates who understand that accounting within the cannabis industry extends well beyond traditional financial reporting. The successful candidate will be comfortable navigating complex entity structures, significant inventory and cost-accounting requirements, evolving regulations, and cannabis-specific tax considerations while providing executive leadership with accurate and meaningful financial information.
