Job description

Texas Meter & Device is hiring for full-time electric meter readers in the greater Albuquerque, NM area. We will train but you must have mechanical aptitude to be successful.

Technicians will report to the TMD location in Albuquerque, NM at the start and at the end of each day. Candidates must reside in the area as there is not a relocation allowance nor per diem associated with this position.

This is a full-time and safety sensitive position.

Under the general direction of the Electric Meter Installation Project Manager or Field Supervisor, the Electric Meter Reader will read residential and commercial class electric meters.

Classroom and Field Training generally takes 3-5 days total. Training pay is $20/hr. Then, pay will increase to $23/hour upon successful completion of training and demonstration of proficiency.

Responsibilities include:

  • Will read residential class and commercial class electric meters
  • Use a handheld device provided by the company to record accurate read information
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed
  • Oversee any materials, uniforms, equipment, vehicle and tools required to complete the work
  • Be punctual and dependable to a set work schedule
  • Recording of subsequent information in the field as required
  • Coordinate scheduling and meets quality / quantity requirements
  • Provide for excellence in internal and external customer service by creating a positive experience for customers, end users and communities through professional and courteous behavior and producing high-quality results
  • Demonstrate, at all times, safety in all aspects of the work including driving, parking, accessing customer property, and adherence to all TMD safety standards and operating procedures
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned or necessary

Requirements:

  • Must reside within a reasonable commute to the Albuquerque, NM area as no per diem nor relocation allowance is associated with this position.
  • Mechanical aptitude is necessary
  • Ability to use handheld devices and other equipment as required for the position
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to stand on feet, bend or stoop for a prolonged period of time. The work is performed outdoors and through inclement weather as necessary.

  • Ability to safely operate a company vehicle at all times
  • Additional Requirements: Background check clearance, drug screening (including cannabis) and I-9 documentation as required by law

Shift Info:

Monday – Friday, with Saturday work/overtime needed at times

Work hours are usually an 8-hour shift, generally between the hours of 7am – 5pm. Shift is usually 7am - 3:30pm, with a required 30-minute unpaid lunch period but could change or vary based on project needs.

Safety-Sensitive Position Designation
This position is officially designated by the Company as a Safety-Sensitive Position under applicable New Mexico state law. Due to the inherent hazards of this role, including but not limited to continuous operation of company vehicles on public roads, daily navigation of residential and commercial properties and proximity to live utility and electrical infrastructure—unimpaired cognitive and physical function is an essential requirement of the job.
