Orientation & Mobility Specialist

Provide orientation and mobility (O&M) services aligned with IEP goals to promote student independence and participation in educational programs. Conduct activity/environmental analyses to identify barriers limiting student access and participation. Develop measurable, attainable, and relevant goals and objectives with benchmarks for students. Teach travel skills, orientation strategies, and mobility techniques to students with visual impairments. Provide training in the use of mobility devices, including canes, and teach transportation and navigation skills. Collaborate with teachers, families, and staff to explain O&M services and support educational integration. Implement positive behavioral interventions and supports, teaching functional skills (communication, self-regulation, socialization, independence). Maintain accurate records, submit timely documentation, and comply with district and MSP reporting requirements.
