The Division of Child and Family Mental Health and Community Psychiatry is seeking a Behavioral Technician/Peer Coach to join the Bobby's Coaches team. As a young adult cancer survivor, you will provide peer support, consultation, and health and wellness coaching to adolescent and young adult cancer survivors receiving services within Duke University Health System. You will help participants navigate healthcare services, engage in self-management, and work toward their self-identified goals.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in a position involving patient or public contact.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Mature, ethical, and conscientious.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Complete initial and ongoing peer coaching training provided by the Bobby's Coaches team.
  • Ability to participate in biweekly supervisory meetings.
  • Position requires providing coaching and support via telephone.

  • Serve as a peer health and wellness coach for adolescent and young adult (18-30 years of age) cancer patients and survivors via telephone.
  • Guide and support adolescent and young adult cancer survivors in becoming active participants in their healthcare and navigating clinical and community-based services.
  • Assist adolescent and young adult cancer survivors with achieving their self-identified goals and provide support through shared cancer survivorship experiences.
  • Encourage participants to contact appropriate medical and mental health professionals when concerns arise.
  • Maintain records of services provided and maintain regular contact with Peer Coach Program Staff/Coordinator, including attendance at biweekly supervisory meetings.
  • Complete required peer coaching training and perform other related duties as assigned.

The young adult peer support team in the Division of Child and Family Mental Health and Community Psychiatry has provided peer-to-peer coaching since 2016 through research and non-research programs supporting adolescents and young adults with chronic health conditions and cancer survivorship. Bobby's Coaches supports adolescent and young adult cancer survivors cared for at the Duke Cancer Institute by providing peer-based guidance and support through shared lived experience.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $20.00 to USD $23.87.
