What is a campaigns intern?

Campaigns Interns are entry-level professionals who assist in the planning, execution, and evaluation of campaigns, often for political, nonprofit, or marketing organizations. Their responsibilities typically include conducting research, managing social media, organizing events, and supporting outreach efforts. Campaigns Interns gain hands-on experience in strategic communication, data analysis, and team collaboration. This role provides valuable insight into the workings of campaigns and helps interns develop skills that are useful for future roles in communications, public relations, or advocacy.

What does a campaigns intern do?

As a Campaigns Intern, you can expect to support the planning, execution, and analysis of marketing or advocacy campaigns. Typical daily tasks may include conducting research on target audiences, assisting in the creation of campaign materials, monitoring social media or email outreach, and helping track campaign performance metrics. You’ll often collaborate with team members from communications, design, and data analysis, gaining exposure to cross-functional teamwork. This hands-on experience is valuable for developing project management and communication skills, and often serves as a stepping stone to full-time roles within campaign or marketing teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a campaigns intern?

To thrive as a Campaigns Intern, you generally need strong organizational abilities, research skills, and a background in communications, marketing, or political science. Familiarity with digital marketing platforms, social media management tools, and office software like Microsoft Office or Google Workspace is typically required. Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively set outstanding candidates apart. These skills and qualities are vital for effectively supporting campaign initiatives, managing multiple tasks, and contributing to successful advocacy or outreach efforts.
