Job description

This position is critical to the ministry of Sky Ranch and contributes directly to our mission of leading youth and families to know and follow Christ. The Director of Summer Camp - Texas plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission of Sky Ranch by leading the overnight Summer Camp Ministry in Texas. This position is integral to shaping the culture, content, and execution of the overnight Texas summer camp experience, ensuring both staff and camper engagement are aligned with Sky Ranch’s core values of leading youth and families to know and follow Christ. The Director is responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of curriculum and programming that is consistent with Sky Ranch’s LifeMap, while also managing the overall Texas summer staff experience and camper care. This role collaborates closely with direct reports, operations teams in Texas, as well as the sales and marketing teams, to ensure the ministry’s success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Staff Development:
  • Establish clear goals and objectives for the Texas Summer Camp Ministry and ensure its alignment with Sky Ranch’s mission.
  • Provide strategic leadership to direct reports, offering coaching and guidance to support their professional growth and development.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and provide constructive feedback to direct reports, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and create opportunities for ongoing staff development.
Camper Experience and Care:
 
  • Ensure the safety, well-being, and spiritual growth of all Texas overnight Summer Camp campers through high-quality programming and attentive care.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for camper families, addressing concerns and responding to feedback as needed. 
  • Oversee camper-related surveys, tracking feedback and implementing improvements based on input from families and campers.
Program Leadership and Execution:
 
  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive training for both full-time and summer staff to equip them for effective ministry.
  • Collaborate with Operations Teams to plan, organize, and execute a variety of camp programs, ensuring alignment with the overall LifeMap goals and values.
  • Maintain an active presence at our Texas location to provide leadership, support, and oversight throughout the camp season.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for the Texas overnight summer camp programs, ensuring financial resources are allocated efficiently and that all expenses are tracked and reported to the accounting department in a timely manner.
  • Working with other Summer Camp Ministry Directors; develop and implement a compelling summer theme, including oversight of the production of necessary videos and other promotional materials to enhance the Texas summer camp experience.
  • Coordinate and train summer camp ministry leaders and content deliverers for impactful ministry moments during camp sessions.
  • Oversee the creation and final approval of all content and resource materials, ensuring they are accessible and aligned with Sky Ranch’s mission and values.
Operational Planning and Process Improvement:
 
  • Implement systems and processes to ensure the effective evaluation of operational procedures, forecasting, and design of the Texas summer camp ministry.
  • Develop strategies to improve camp structures and procedures, ensuring scalability and sustainability as Sky Ranch continues to grow. 
Summer Staff Management:
 
  • In cooperation with the other Summer Camp Ministry Directors, join in leading the recruitment and hiring process for over 850 Summer Staff across all camp locations, ensuring alignment with Sky Ranch’s mission and values.
  • Support Operations Teams in staffing decisions and staff placement, ensuring optimal matches between roles and staff strengths.
  • Oversee Texas staff training, ensuring a comprehensive and effective orientation and preparation for all summer staff in attendance.
  • Provide ongoing leadership, mentorship, and discipleship for Summer Staff throughout their tenure, ensuring a positive and impactful experience.
  • Stay informed on industry best practices for recruiting, training, and developing summer staff, ensuring that Sky Ranch remains a leader in staff development.
Strategic Leadership and Vision Execution:
 
  • As a member of the Summer Camp Ministry Team, collaborate with fellow Summer Camp Ministry Directors to set and execute the current vision and strategic objectives for the Summer Camp Ministries of Sky Ranch. 
  • As a member of the Core Leadership Team, collaborate with senior leaders to set and execute the long-term vision and strategic objectives for Sky Ranch.
  •  Contribute to the overall direction of the organization by offering insights and recommendations based on the needs of the Texas Summer Camp Ministry.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain compliance with Sky Ranch’s employee policies and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION  
  • Bachelor’s degree
EXPERIENCE
  • At least four years of experience in camp ministry in a full-time leadership role.  
 KNOWLEDGE 
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. 
  • In-depth understanding of the field of summer camp ministry through experience and research.   
  • Strong working ability to use various office software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. 
  • Basic internet and social media skills.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES 
  • Ability to effectively manage staff in areas such as: selection, development, coaching, motivation, scheduling, and performance evaluation. 
  • Proven successful leadership experience and ability to build unity amongst a team and motivate them to work together toward a common mission.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
