ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned by the Principal/AD
? Be an appropriate role model for student-athletes, parents, families, SHS staff, opponents, and community
? Fosters initiative, self-discipline, teamwork, loyalty, courage, leadership, and commitment to excellence to Shelbyville High School athletes
? Promotes the accomplishments and past successes of the Golden Bears who have preceded them
? Works cooperatively and develops rapport with administration, teachers, coaching staff, players, and community
? Complies with all aspects of the coaching handbook
? Assists the Athletic Director in selecting personnel for a particular sport
? Organizes, directs, and supervises assistant coaches
? Establishes and communicates the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by coaches at all levels of the program (K-12)
? Ensures that all coaches work together for a common goal within their respective programs and provide unity with the feeder schools and affiliated youth leagues at Shelbyville Central Schools
? Schedules and communicates periodic youth coach trainings
? Be visible and available to help with feeder programs
? Reviews and revises, as needed, the sport-specific sections of the elementary athletic handbook on an annual basis
? Develops integrity within coaching staff and fellow coaches
? Works with other coaches to facilitate multi-sport athletes
? Exhibits enthusiasm and sincere interest in coaches and athletes
? Uses sound proven methods of coaching and displays knowledge and innovation of sport
? Clearly communicates with individual/team about goals, performance, and progress
? Develops and maintains a competitive environment
? Instructs individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved
? Promotes the SHS athletic programs and athletes with local news and through social media
? Organizes, plans, and schedules a regular program of practice in and out of season
? Organizes and implements a summer developmental program
? Organizes, plans, and schedules a summer youth camp for grades K-12
? Maintain an accurate roster and verify the academic and athletic eligibility of athletes
? Assists the Athletic Director in planning contests, special events, etc.
? Communicates and works with medical personnel and parents involving athletes' injuries
? Adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow-up
? Monitors the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the assigned sport is conducted at all times that athletes are present
? Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season
? Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual athletes
? Maintains competency in rules, rule interpretations, meet procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sport, the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), and the Hoosier Heritage Conference (HHC)
? Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in this sport and is consistent in establishing criteria for eligibility in competition
? Complies with pre-season, in-season, and post-season expectations set forth by the Athletic Director or outlined in the coaching handbook
? Works closely with the athletic department in scheduling contests
? Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, and submits promptly
? Accounts for all equipment or delegates the responsibility
? Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork
? Develops a consistent and positive public communications procedure throughout the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about the athletic program
? Exhibits acceptable personal conduct and appearance before, during, and after the game
? Attends clinics when financially possible
? Participates actively in other athletic, professional, and school activities
? Complies with requirements outlined on the employee sign-off sheet
? Completes required training promptly
? Maintains satisfactory attendance
? Complies with Corporation Bylaws, Policies, and Employee Handbook
? Models Corporation Mission Statement and Fundamental Objectives
