Job description

Camp Nurse for Children with Special Needs

Jill's House is a Christian non-profit organization and auxiliary ministry of McLean Bible Church called by God to love families raising children (ages 6-17) with intellectual disabilities toward Jesus by providing them with short-term, overnight respite care and holistic family support services. We unconditionally welcome, love, and serve all families whose children fit our service parameters regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or any other characteristic. In all that we do, we seek to live in accordance with Biblical principles.

Role Summary:

We are looking to grow our Nurse staff with great people to work weekends ensuring camp is a safe and healthy environment. Under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, the Camp Nurse works alongside the Weekend Adventures team from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon and oversees all medical care for campers ages 6-17 with intellectual disabilities.

There is one nurse on site who oversees the medical care for an average of 10 campers throughout the weekend. The Camp Nurse is responsible for anticipating medical or nursing care problems and providing solutions relating to the care for children with disabilities. In addition to the medical responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to assist our campers in activities such as hiking, low ropes courses, hayrides, craft time and even s'mores!

General Duties:

  • Administering medication to the children staying at camp, attending to injuries, handling all medical emergencies. Under the guidance of our Nursing Manager.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the medical files, including check-in and MARS, as needed.
  • Collecting and securing from parent and/or legal guardian all appropriate medications and approved medical devices along with distribution / use approvals for each child staying at camp.
  • Managing the storage and distribution of actual medication in accordance with Jill's House policies and procedures and accompanying approval documents.
  • Attending Jill's House staff meetings, assisting in the staff training regarding the medical care of children and attending all training necessary to maintain professional certifications.
  • Assist with ADLs as needed

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a current, active, and unrestricted RN or LPN license in the state of New Jersey; BSN preferred
  • Current CPR/BLS
  • 1 year of nursing experience required; pediatric or ID/DD experience preferred
