Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals, Policies, and Mission of the YMCA of the East Bay. The Camp Services Associate is responsible for maintaining clean and safe areas throughout the camp facilities, performing light maintenance tasks, and handling laundry as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Clean multiple locations and facilities in the camp including restrooms.
  2. Perform custodial tasks to ensure general camp remains neat and clean during all camp operations.
  3. Responsible for keeping assigned areas clean, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash collection, and specific upkeep and organization of janitorial stock in all communal locations on property.
  4. Work with Facilities Director to maintain proper inventory of cleaning & janitorial supplies. 
  5. Perform light maintenance duties such as unclogging toilets and sinks, replacing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing issues, and conducting basic repairs as needed. Respond to campers’ requests and questions in a helpful, courteous manner or refer to another staff member. 
  6. Collect, wash, fold and dispense laundry to their required locations.  
  7. Maintain awareness of environment in order to report and respond to suspicious and inappropriate behavior, safety issues and emergency situations.  
  8. Attend required camp and in-service trainings.  Assist other staff when necessary, such as emergency situations and community events.  
  9. Perform other duties as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties; must occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to perform essential care and maintenance of facility which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi–reach to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs
  • Ability to stand on concrete floors for 1 hour at a time 
  • Ability to use and tolerate the safe use of cleaning chemicals used in the laundry process 
  • Visual, auditory and physical ability to complete all stages of the laundry process
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
