Job Description: Wichita, Kansas

This position is designed to develop individuals who want to become DOT drivers but do not have the required license or tractor/trailer experience. A primary requirement of this program is that the individual must obtain a CDL–Permit within two months of entering into the program. Upon successful completion of the driver training program, the expectation is to promote the trainee to a DOT Route Service Associate • Must learn to be proficient in performing delivery duties while maintaining a good safety record. • Must have a sense of urgency while learning to deliver product along assigned routes consisting of multiple stops with various levels of difficulty • Must be able to read customer invoices to determine items to be moved, gathered, distributed and delivered • Must be able to learn to use electronic equipment such as Xata on board computer and hand held scanners • Must learn and adhere to the rules which are governed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration • Must learn to maintain accuracy of delivered product with no damage due to mishandling • Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures • Must learn how to conduct safety inspection of vehicle in compliance with DOT and FMCSR guidelines and learn to check fluid levels daily, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights and brakes in order to ensure that vehicles are in proper/safe working condition • Must learn to articulate and report all mechanical problems encountered with vehicles • Learn to maintain records such Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports and Driver Hours of Service Logs in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Regulations • Report delays, accidents or other traffic and transportation situations to transportation management • Must become proficient with Smith Systems Defensive Driver Training

Keith company principles and standards • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing good customer service, including needs assessment and meeting quality standards for services • Must have good communication skills • Must be well organized • Must be able to multi-task assignments and have the willingness to learn new processes • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. • Must have good mathematical skills • Must be proficient with a personal computer • High School Diploma or GED (General Education Degree)

Driver safety is important to Ben E. Keith.  We use dash cameras which leverage artificial intelligence to recognize safe driving, capture safety events and improve driver safety performance. The videos are also used to exonerate drivers in accidents.  All drivers sign a driver consent form upon hire to confirm their understanding.
