POSITION TYPE: Part-Time, Non-Exempt, Entry-Level

REPORTS TO: Technical Services Senior Production Manager

Position Overview

Control Room Technician 1 is an entry-level position that offers a hands-on training opportunity for individuals interested in live event production. Technician 1s will receive structured training and shadow support, assisting in the operation of key production systems during games, concerts, and special events. Our primary contributions support the in arena presentations for San Jose Sharks, San Jose Barracuda, San Jose PWHL, as well as concerts and other rental events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Shadow and assist experienced production staff.
  • Participate in setup, teardown, and operation of:
    • Cameras / Shading/ PTZ(Grass Valley, Hitachi, Panasonic, Sony)
    • Replay systems (EVS, Mira)
    • Playback(Ross Kiva, Playdeck)
    • LED signage(Daktronics)
    • Audio (FOH mixing Yamaha, Allen & Heath or A2 support)
    • CG (Ross Xpression)
    • Lighting (ETC, GrandMA)
    • TD (Ross Carbonite, Grass Valley Karrera)
  • Assist in cabling, labeling, and backstage organization.
  • Attend training sessions and fulfill required learning shifts.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, exhibit close attention to detail, follow direction/cues and stay highly task-focused during events.
  • Good organizational and critical thinking / problem-solving skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old or possess a valid work permit from your current school by the time of hire.
  • Familiarity with production equipment via school, church, or community access.
  • Strong communication, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
  • Availability for nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Clear communication and teamwork skills.

Training Model

  • One 4-hour onboarding session
  • 3 live event shadow shifts
  • Assigned mentor and skill check-ins

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and crouch for extended periods of time, with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to bend at the waist, reach overhead, and lift up to 45 lbs, with or without accommodation.
  • Physically able to navigate stairs and catwalks at SSE facilities during normal work hours and events, with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to go up and down stairs multiple times during a shift, with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to work in low-light and high-noise environments during live events.
