Job description

The Opto-Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and integrating high-performance compact camera modules for cutting-edge AI/AR/VR devices. This role requires experience in camera design and cross-functional collaboration, hands-on prototyping, and experience with high-volume manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Design camera module structures and packaging in CAD, including injection molded, RFPC, PCB, and other component parts
• Establish requirements for camera systems in collaboration with architects and system engineers
• Collaborate with the Product Design team to negotiate the camera module MCO and system interface requirements
• Interface directly with vendors and suppliers, ensuring manufacturability and quality
• Conduct rigorous tolerance analysis of camera module design and component parts
• Document engineering requirements and create detailed 2D manufacturing and inspection drawings
• Collaborate with reliability and supply chain teams to ensure durability and ramp-up for mass production
• Communicate technical information and complex concepts clearly across teams and stakeholders
• Travel domestically and internationally as needed for business and supplier engagement
Minimum Qualifications
• BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Optics, Physics, or related field
• 3+ years of proven experience designing miniature opto-mechanical modules or components for consumer electronics, such as AR/VR, mobile devices, or cameras
• Demonstrated expertise in mechanical design, encompassing proficiency in tolerance analysis. Proven experience to utilize 3D CAD modeling and drafting software packages
• Understanding of structural and thermal FEA, as well as material and adhesives properties
• Familiar with Active Alignment (AA) process for camera module assembly
• Experience with vendor interfacing and production methods
• Demonstrated design experience for mass production, including plastic injection molding and RFPC/PCB
• Experience collaborating across disciplines and managing projects from initial design to high-volume manufacturing
Preferred Qualifications
• Basic structural and thermal Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
• Experience with NX software
• Experience with consumer electronics camera and depth module design at leading tech companies
• Familiarity with optical simulation and ray tracing software (e.g., Zemax, Code V, LightTools)
