Camera Isp Image Processing specialists focus on enhancing image quality through algorithms and sensor data analysis, while Camera Firmware Engineers develop the low-level software that controls camera hardware. Both roles are essential in camera development but differ in their technical focus and responsibilities.

What is a Camera ISP (Image Signal Processor) and what does a Camera ISP Image Processing Engineer do?

A Camera ISP (Image Signal Processor) is a specialized hardware unit or software pipeline in digital cameras and smartphones that processes raw image data captured by the camera sensor. A Camera ISP Image Processing Engineer is responsible for developing and optimizing algorithms that enhance image quality, such as noise reduction, color correction, auto exposure, white balance, and sharpening. They work closely with hardware and software teams to ensure that images and videos captured by devices are clear, vibrant, and true to life. Their role is critical in achieving high-quality imaging in products like smartphones, surveillance cameras, and automotive systems.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in camera ISP (Image Signal Processing) roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in camera ISP Image Processing roles often encounter challenges such as optimizing image quality under varying lighting conditions, managing sensor noise, and ensuring real-time processing performance. These challenges require a strong understanding of both hardware constraints and image processing algorithms. Collaboration with hardware engineers and software developers is crucial to balance image quality with resource efficiency. Continuous learning and staying updated with the latest advancements in computer vision and ISP techniques also help in overcoming these challenges.

Job description

Rylo is a powerful camera that captures everything around you and creates exceptionally smooth, beautiful video that's easy to share. Developed by a team of former Instagram and Apple engineers, Rylo's breakthrough stabilization software and smartphone app eliminate the traditional pain points of shooting, editing, and sharing videos. With Rylo, you don't have to worry about framing your shot or holding the camera steady to capture a video you're proud to share - simply hit record and make the perfect video after-the-fact.

See Rylo in action

Rylo is seeking a Senior Camera Image Quality Engineer to join the team in the development of next-generation consumer video cameras. Key responsibilities for this position include definition of image quality requirements, review of lens designs, development of imaging test and characterization methods, and modeling of the entire imaging system from capture to display. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in a variety of areas including optics, image processing, image sensors, manufacturing test, and modeling of imaging systems.

What you'll work on:
  • Define image quality requirements and implement test capabilities in lab and manufacturing environments for lens components and full camera systems
  • Review lens design for a compact, high-quality, wide field-of-view lens and drive development at vendor
  • Develop an end-to-end model of the Rylo imaging system from scene capture through to viewing of content in various consumption formats
  • Document lens design and delivery specifications as well as final system level image quality specifications
  • Tune ISP and imaging pipeline for optimal image quality
  • Collaborate with our algorithms team on calibration strategies for improving the Rylo image processing pipeline
  • Failure mode analysis and troubleshooting of undesirable image aberrations and artifacts
Who we're looking for:
  • You have 3+ years in an imaging systems role
  • You are highly proficient at data analysis and image processing using Matlab or equivalent
  • You are proficient with lens design tools such as Zemax and FRED
