Camera Director information

What are some common challenges faced by camera directors during live broadcasts, and how can they be managed?

Camera Directors often face the challenge of making quick decisions under pressure, especially during live broadcasts where there is no room for error. They must coordinate multiple camera operators, anticipate on-the-fly changes, and adapt to unexpected technical issues or shifts in the program. Effective communication, thorough pre-production planning, and maintaining a calm demeanor are crucial strategies for managing these challenges. Over time, experience and a strong rapport with crew members help Camera Directors handle live situations with greater confidence and efficiency.

What does a camera director do?

A Camera Director, also known as a Director of Photography or Cinematographer, is responsible for overseeing the visual aspects of a film, television show, or live broadcast. They work closely with the director to determine how scenes will be shot, selecting camera angles, lenses, lighting, and movement to achieve the desired look and mood. Camera Directors also manage the camera crew and coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth production. Their creative and technical decisions play a key role in shaping the visual storytelling of a project.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a camera director?

To thrive as a Camera Director, you need strong expertise in visual storytelling, shot composition, and camera operation, often supported by a degree in film, television, or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard cameras, video switchers, and editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Avid is typically required. Leadership, quick decision-making, and clear communication are essential soft skills for directing camera crews and collaborating with production teams. These skills and qualities are crucial to ensure visually compelling content and seamless coordination during live or recorded productions.

Job description

Director of Embodied AI, Data Foundry

Stord operates the largest independent e‑commerce fulfillment network in the U.S., with 20+ fulfillment centers, 4,000+ warehouse associates, and nearly 100million packages shipped annually. We are building a new business line that turns this operational infrastructure into valuable training data assets in physical AI.

What You Will Own
  • Close customers: run customer discovery and close initial pilot deals with humanoid robotics, labs, and physical AI companies. Sit across from their VPs of AI and Heads of Data, understand their training pipeline needs, and translate that into what Stord delivers.
  • Define and deliver the product: own the data product across quality tiers—from RGB egocentric video through depth‑enhanced and full multimodal capture with hand pose and annotations. Decide what gets built, in what order, based on what buyers will actually pay for. Hold the line on quality.
  • Run the capture and delivery program: stand up the warehouse capture operation—camera and rig hardware selection, enrollment, edge processing, and processing pipelines that package datasets for delivery. Coordinate across warehouse operations, engineering, and customers to ship datasets on spec and on schedule.
  • Build the team: hire and lead a small, senior team, expanding as the business scales. Set technical direction and quality bar; make architecture and trade‑off decisions without needing to write every line of code.
What You Bring
  • Run a data operation or data product end to end at a robotics or AI data company, owning the full lifecycle: defining data to collect, managing capture and annotation, deploying hardware capture systems, ensuring quality, and delivering to ML teams.
  • Technical expertise in computer vision and ML data formats, able to read pipeline designs and judge their soundness.
  • Commercial instinct: experience selling data products to robotics or AI labs, or having purchased data and identifying what makes a dataset worth paying for.
  • Execution across many moving parts, able to mediate between engineering, operations, and customers, and drive deals to close.
Why This Role
  • A rare opportunity to build a high‑growth business from the ground up with infrastructure and resources to support.
  • A structural moat that no startup can replicate.
  • Direct access to the fastest‑growing buyer market in AI.
  • A CTO/Co-Founder as your direct partner who will run initial buyer conversations alongside you and remove internal obstacles.
Equal Opportunity Employer

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. Stord participates in E‑verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I‑9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.
