Job description

We are excited to share that The Advanced Manufacturing Institute San Diego is currently enrolling students for our free 17-week accelerated CNC training program. This program is designed to provide both classroom lectures and hands-on experience in shop labs, equipping participants with the skills and real-world experience needed to start a career in the advanced manufacturing industry.

Here is a brief overview of what our program covers:
• Shop Theory: Evolution of machine tools, the role of the machinist, and an overview of various machining processes.
• Quality: Learn about ISO 9001, AS9100, NADCAP, quality clinics, auditing, and corrective actions.
• Shop Math: Understanding the math necessary for machining.
• Blueprints: Learn to read and interpret blueprints in the context of manufacturing.
• Inspection: Hands-on experience with micrometers, calipers, and gages.
• Manual Machining: Introduction to lathe machining, mill machining, and grinding.

• NDT: Gain an overview of Non-Destructive Testing techniques.
• CNC Machining: In-depth understanding of CNC machining processes.
• CAD-CAM: Work with Mastercam and learn about the importance of CAD/CAM in lean manufacturing.
• Six Sigma Green Belt: Understand the Lean Six Sigma philosophy and process improvement techniques.

The program is scheduled from October 12, 2026, to February 5, 2027, with classes running Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Graduates will earn valuable credentials that are highly regarded in the industry, including:
• Certificate of Achievement
• Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate
• Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Educational Overview Certificate

Regarding the CNC machinist job market in San Diego County, there is a high demand for skilled machinists, with many job openings available. CNC machinist positions offer competitive pay, often above the living wage, and there are currently few institutions offering the level of training we provide.
