Base Salary: $17.24 to $40.19 hourly DOE

Job Summary
The Senior Construction Technician is responsible for initiating and building customer relationships, while
providing technical solutions through our products and services. As brand ambassadors of Ziply Fiber
within our communities, this position will bring excellent customer service and technical expertise to
resolve telecommunication issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities listed below are a range of duties performed by the employee
and not intended to reflect all duties performed.


Installation, Repair, and Service Delivery
• Utilize test equipment to install products and isolate trouble effectively.
• Support, install, and repair company products by providing Ziply Fiber services.
• Install and maintain inside wiring for residential/business broadband (HSI/Video) service.
• Use and understand automated Dispatch equipment (i.e., handheld terminals), read and
understand broadband service orders and trouble tickets, and the use of appropriate
broadband test equipment.
• Effectively use Ziply Fiber’s internal programs and dispatch programs to complete
assignments.

Fiber Construction, Splicing, and Testing
• Perform single fusion and mass fusion splicing on high-count fiber optic cables (24-ribbon
and above) in outside plant environments.
• Prep, splice, and maintain fiber optic cables in aerial, underground, and indoor settings.
• Utilize OTDR, Power Meters, and VFL to test fiber, troubleshoot, and identify network issues.

Network Maintenance, Documentation, and Safety
• Effectively use preventive maintenance program by rebuilding aerial/buried/underground
cables.
• Read and interpret Outside Plant drawings.
• Read, create, and maintain splicing schematics, blueprints, and engineering documents.
• Perform mid-sheath entries, bond and ground fibers, and maintain existing plant.
• Adhere to OSHA, NESC, and NEC safety standards, including in-vehicle safety and work
zone setups.
• Respond to network outages (24/7 on-call capability).

Other Duties
• Performs other duties as required to support the business and evolving organization

Required Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one (1) year of proven experience in outside plant fiber splicing.
• Experience with Fiber Optic construction and maintenance, transmission/noise isolation, sealed
plant repair, and/or operation of all types of heavy equipment.
• Additional equipment certification/licensing/experience is preferred (i.e., Nortel, DMS10, Adtran,
AFC/Tellabs, Calix, Go Digital, Acetelis, Pair Gain, Multiplexers, Seiscor/Pulsecom S24DU/COT,
Fiber, Optics, etc.)
• Demonstrated knowledge of all types of splicing activity, cable, and safety test equipment and/or
use of all types of cable construction equipment.
• Basic AC/DC Theory
• Good safety record
• Knowledge in First Aid & CPR
• Proven expertise in mass fusion (ribbon) splicing and Core Alignment Single Fiber Splicers
• Ability to read/interpret construction prints and fiber splicing diagrams.Must have and maintain a
valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and satisfactory driving record.
• Must complete a pre-employment drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Five (5) years of experience in telecommunications installation and maintenance.
• Additional equipment certification/licensing/experience (i.e., Nortel, DMS10, ADTRAN,
AFC/Tellabs, Calix, Go Digital, Acetelis, Pair Gain, Multiplexers, Seiscor/Pulsecom S24DU/COT,
Fiber, Optics, etc.)
• Possession of a valid CDL driver’s license is preferred.

• Ability to operate equipment to perform the essentials functions of the job (i.e. various splicing
tools, test equipment, telephone, computer/laptop, company vehicle, backhoe, cable plow,
megger, ohmmeter, pusher, 3M modular splicing unit, locator, DAVAR test equipment, line truck,
semi-truck, trailers, CSU and/or aerial devices, various hand/power, splicing and testing tools,
shovel and rake, transmission, noise and isolation equipment, attenuation test sets, OTDR, fusion
splicing and mechanical fiber splicing tools).
• Simple and complex mathematic skills.
• Ability to be unaffected by flashing lights and strobes.
• Ability to always maintain a professional manner and appearance.
• Ability to drive on behalf of the company in a safe and responsible manner.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to

stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a

include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to
adjust focus. The ability to work in tight spaces, climb poles, work in aerial buckets, and lift heavy
equipment up to 75 pounds.

Work Environment
Work is performed in outdoor settings, with occasional work in underground manholes, aloft in a bucket,
with some occasional indoor work near electrical equipment.
