We manufacture a variety of products for professional bakers including frozen scoop batters, predeposited muffin, cornbread, loaf cakes and Boston Coffee Cakes, mixes as well as an expanding line of fully baked items such as coffee cakes, loaf cakes and more. Batch Maker

Classification:

  • Non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

Reports To:

  • Production Supervisor (with a dotted line to Group Lead)

Job Summary: The Batch Maker plays a key role in our manufacturing process by accurately following product formulas and directions to produce batches ready for packaging in the Wet or Bakery department. This entry-level position involves organizing materials and ingredients, handling and measuring materials, operating equipment, and ensuring product quality according to food manufacturing standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Follow precise formula instructions to produce high-quality products, using iPads and scanners throughout the batch-making process.
  • Understand machine operation, ingredient sequencing, and identification of minor ingredients. Set up equipment required for batch processing.
  • Fill blenders with pre-measured materials, managing weights up to 4,000 lbs. per batch (individual bags weighing 50 lbs. or less).
  • Produce multiple batches per day, depending on the production line requirements.
  • Monitor the quality of raw materials, focusing on color, consistency, aroma, and texture, and report any substandard materials to the group leader or supervisor.
  • Monitor the quality of packaging and equipment, and report any issues to the group leader and supervisor.
  • Complete all related paperwork accurately and thoroughly.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, adhering to all safety rules and procedures, including PPE.

Competencies:

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to read and follow instructions accurately.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Comfortable with repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in operating material handling equipment, such as electric pallet jacks or manual hand jacks.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Work Environment:

  • Work performed on the manufacturing floor, with exposure to machinery noise and varying temperatures.


Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged standing and walking on concrete floors.
  • Frequent climbing steps, bending, lifting, and twisting.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Position Type:

  • Full-Time

Work Hours:

  • Varying shifts, with potential for overtime based on production needs.

Travel:

  • No travel required.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Willingness and ability to work varying shifts and schedules.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Experience with operating material handling equipment.

Additional Eligibility Items:

  • Certification in operating material handling equipment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and practices.
