Job Description
The Cake Decorator is responsible for performing duties as directed by the Bakery Manager and/or Assistant Bakery Manager for the successful operation of the Bakery Department. It is essential that as a Cake Decorator, you will present yourself in a professional and courteous manner at all times while performing your defined responsibilities. You are responsible for always maintaining our high standards of Customer Service. Other duties may be assigned as required, depending upon the available time, business volume and other criteria as determined by your appropriate supervisors and/or Gerrity’s Supermarkets. Full compliance with current and future policies will be required to ensure that your work contribution is in the best interest of Gerrity’s Supermarkets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Wait on customers at the bakery case in the bakery sales area
  • Maintains creative and artistic decorating procedures, which enhances the products display and customer appeal
  • Take cake orders utilizing proper phone and customer etiquette
  • Prioritize and fill special cake orders on time for customer pick-up
  • Responsible for maintaining freezer and cold cases and maintaining proper rotation
  • Clean bakery prep area and all cake decorating tools
  • Competent knowledge and application of food preparations and procedures
  • Cooperate with other departments when inter-departmental or store wide sales promotions
  • Responsible for assisting other department positions as assigned by the Bakery Manager
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation at the bakery cases, prep area, floors, coolers and workstation
  • Will be present at your workstation at the start of your shift
  • Comply fully with all safety policies and procedures
  • Adhere to Customer Service Pledge at all times
  • Maintain a neat, professional appearance at all times while working and strictly adhere to the Dress Code policy
  • Attendance at your job is essential to the overall function of your department
  • Will comply with all policies contained within the Employee Handbook
  • All areas as designated within the Essential Functions of your job responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS
  • No minimum educational requirement needed
  • Minimum age of 18 years old
  • One year Bakery Apprentice (or related field) experience
  • Must be able to calculate figures, amounts, discounts, and percentages
  • Must be able to lift, bend, and twist with up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to hear, speak, and understand the spoken word
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency in order to read and understand
  • Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and taste or smell
  • While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to stand, and utilize full hand and digit functions, reach with hands and arms while manipulating objects
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, and color vision with the ability to adjust focus
