What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Cae Safety Engineer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CAE Safety Engineer, you need a background in mechanical or automotive engineering, proficiency in safety analysis, and experience with simulation-based design. Expertise in CAE tools such as LS-DYNA, HyperMesh, PAM-CRASH, and familiarity with safety regulations like FMVSS or Euro NCAP are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, effective teamwork, and clear communication make you stand out in this role. These skills are essential to ensure that vehicle safety systems are thoroughly tested, compliant with regulatory standards, and effectively integrated into the engineering process.

What is a CAE Safety Engineer job?

A CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) Safety Engineer is responsible for using simulation and modeling tools to assess and improve vehicle safety performance. They analyze crash scenarios, study structural integrity, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Their work helps optimize designs for occupant protection, pedestrian safety, and crashworthiness. CAE Safety Engineers collaborate with design, testing, and regulatory teams to enhance vehicle safety through virtual validation before physical prototyping.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a CAE Safety Engineer?

As a CAE Safety Engineer, you can expect to spend your days performing crash simulations, analyzing test results, and preparing detailed reports outlining vehicle safety performance. You’ll work closely with design teams to recommend modifications that enhance occupant protection and ensure compliance with safety standards. Collaboration with testing engineers, project managers, and regulatory teams is common to align digital models with real-world testing. Staying current with evolving safety regulations and incorporating new methodologies into your simulations are also important parts of the job. This dynamic workflow offers continuous learning and opportunities to impact overall vehicle safety.

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Perform nonlinear structural simulations using LS-DYNA for component, subsystem, and full-vehicle applications.
  • Analyze structural performance, load paths, stiffness, intrusion, and energy management across crash scenarios.
  • Build, manage, and execute high-fidelity FE models using ANSA, Primer, and HyperMesh.
  • Correlate structural CAE predictions with physical test data and support post-test reviews and root-cause investigations.
  • Develop structural countermeasures and support design teams with data-driven recommendations.
  • Support CAE integration across crash, NVH, durability, thermal, aero, and vehicle-dynamics domains.
  • Review structural changes, reinforcements, joints, and stiffness updates for cross-attribute impacts.
  • Contribute to vehicle milestone readiness, design releases, and cross-functional sign-off activities.
  • Participate in multi-attribute technical reviews and support continuous improvement of CAE tools and processes.
  • Support implementation of AI/ML tools to streamline CAE workflows, including automated preprocessing, model setup, and simulation quality checks.
  • Support development and use of AI-driven predictive models to complement traditional simulations, improve early design guidance, and assist cross-attribute decision-making.
Who You Are
  • A technically strong CAE engineer with a solid understanding of vehicle crashworthiness and structural mechanics.
  • Comfortable working in a cross-functional OEM product development environment.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of balancing engineering rigor with program timing.
  • Able to communicate complex technical results clearly to engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
  • Motivated by building safe, durable vehicles and continuously improving engineering processes.
