Job Summary: A CAD Designer is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings, plans, and schematics using specialized computer software. CAD Operators play a crucial role in engineering accurate drawings essential for the design and production of our fire systems.
Key Responsibilities:
  • CAD Design and Drafting: Utilize CAD software, mostly 2D AutoCAD, to create and modify detailed technical drawings, schematics, layouts, and plans for fire safety systems. This includes fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems, emergency evacuation plans, and other fire safety-related projects.
  • Collaboration with Engineers and Design Teams: Work closely with fire safety engineers, designers, and project managers to understand project requirements and translate conceptual ideas into practical CAD designs.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain an organized record of all CAD drawings, revisions, and updates related to fire safety projects. In addition to drawings, Component Data sheets, Technical Manuals, Certs, and other Contract Data Requirements will be completed as needed. Ensure that the documentation is accurate and accessible for future reference and compliance purposes.
  • Quality Control: Perform thorough reviews of CAD drawings to identify any errors or discrepancies. Verify that all design elements are in line with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Design Optimization: Suggest improvements and modifications to enhance the efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness of fire safety system designs. Work towards creating innovative and practical solutions for various fire safety challenges.
  • Compliance and Regulation Adherence: Stay up to date with fire safety codes, regulations, and industry standards to ensure that all CAD designs meet the required safety guidelines and comply with local, regional, and national regulations is a plus but not required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We Are Looking For:
  • High School Diploma / GED, required
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields (or equivalent work experience):
    • Computer-Aided Design
    • Architecture
    • Engineering
    • Related technical field
  • Experience: Proven experience as a CAD Operator, specifically in the Fire Safety or Building Services industry, is highly desirable.
  • CAD Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in using CAD software primarily AutoCAD. Revit, Solid works, Navisworks, ShipConstructor or other industry-specific CAD tools are a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office Word and Excel.
  • Creating and compiling PDF documents in Adobe and/or Bluebeam.
  • Detail-Oriented: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in creating technical drawings and designs.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality work.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and clients.
  • Problem-Solving: A proactive approach to identifying design challenges and finding effective solutions.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to new software and design methodologies as technology evolves

Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move heavy objects.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Capable of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
