Job description

Tria Federal is seeking a Veterans Affairs Technical Lead to join our team. This location will be in Arlington, VA and is a hybrid role. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage interdependencies between multiple VA IT systems
  • Assist project managers with implementing enterprise cloud integration
  • Assist project managers with the development of high quality responses to internal and external information requests
  • 5 years of experience with VistA deployment and patching, from the OS level up
  • Experience with formal SDLC, particularly agile
  • Knowledge of VA patch and release process for VistA
  • Knowledge of VA practices and policies
  • Experience with Intersystem technology stack (Cache, Ensemble)
  • Experience with Veterans Administration (VA) integration, including VistA
  • Experience developing APIs, RPCs and clinical application code using Cache, MuMPs, or COS (Cache Object Script)
  • Experience with XML, XSLT, JSON or other data formats
  • Familiarity with relational & non-relational databases such as MySQL, Postgres, Oracle, SQL Server, Mongo DB, Dynamo, Cassandra
  • Ability to communicate with brevity and clarity, both orally and through written communication, to management and co-workers
  • Passionate and motivated self-starter that excels in a dynamic, fast-paced environment requiring only limited supervision
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities
  • Ability to have or obtain a VA Tier 3 Public Trust clearance
  • Experience with HL7 Messaging and standards
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively, and work independently, with minimal supervision and direction

  • Good understanding of HealthShare and Health Insights
  • Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures and algorithm design, and complexity analysis
  • Experience with data warehousing design and implementation
  • Experience designing, implementing, and using RESTful Web Services in a Microservice Architecture
  • Experience translating design mockups and prototypes into working application designs
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such PowerShell or Unix shell scripting
  • You have a solid understanding of version control principles, preferably using Git
  • Experience with Agile Frameworks such as Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience with TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, Automated Testing
  • Motivated to drive tasks to completion and take ownership of projects
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and agile development environment
  • Federal Government experience, preferably with the Veteran's Administration
  • VA VIP Methodology Experience
  • Software as a Service (SaaS) implementations

  • Deployment and patching of VistA for several cloud environments

  • Work on POCs and cutting-edge features before they're integrated into the product
  • Influence product decisions, features, and APIs based on your real-world usage experience
  • Independently take projects to completion
  • Maintain program data and documents on several web-based reporting tools, including SharePoint and IBM Rational tools
  • Prepare and maintain Veteran-Focused Intake Process (VIP) documentation for VA Office of Information & Technology (OI&T) projects
  • Translate technical information from disparate sources into executive-level communications
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures for program activities and identify process improvements
  • Facilitate meetings with VA employees and capture meeting minutes
  • Work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Function as part of an integrated team sharing products, best practices, and information across the portfolio
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Prior experience working on a VA OI&T development project is mandatory
  • Experience working with enterprise cloud integration highly preferred
  • A Senior Developer must be able to create logical and functional software code in a variety of languages
  • Must have experience in understanding and articulating the benefits and risks associated with different coding languages in different functional environments
  • Must have experience reacting to problems and correcting the program as necessary
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required
  • 8+ year's professional experience in Software Development
  • VIP and Rational Tools experience highly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Experience working with the following software products: Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook/Access/MS Project, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Visio, IBM Rational Tool Suite, Skype, WebEx, WinZip
  • Experience working in a consulting environment and understanding of client/customer relations
  • Must be able to work under pressure, coordinate multiple assignments at once, and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service

  • Experience producing quality, visually interesting communications products for public consumption
  • Bachelor's degree required; Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent
