Job description

The Technician will perform residential, commercial and multi-dwelling unit cable television, high speed Internet, WiFi and telephone installations from the tap to the customer's equipment. Responsible for completing work in a safe, courteous and efficient manner to exact client specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Completes assigned residential and/or multi-dwelling unit cable television, high speed data, and/or telephone installations, reconnects, disconnects, and/or changes of services to exact client specifications.

Installs modem, converters and related hardware.

Installs drops, grounds, outlets, converters, telephone services and other cable devices.

Checks customer television reception and properly tunes television set on cable installations. Checks computer functions and internet connections on HSD installations. Checks telephone connections on telephone installations.

Thoroughly and effectively explains use of all services and equipment to customers. Has ability to solve technical problems with customer through effective verbal communications.

Follows installation specifications and procedures as outlined by the cable company and supervisor.

Follows established and proven safety practices at all times. Recognizes, practices and enforces safety rules and procedures when performing technical tasks. Reports accidents, injuries, unsafe acts or conditions in a timely manner.

Properly maintains company vehicle, tools and equipment.

Handles monetary transactions with customers accurately and submits monies and paperwork accordingly to established procedure.

Reviews, completes and obtains signatures on all customer work orders and ensures all paperwork is properly and accurately completed. Submits accurate, legible and timely documentation accordingly to established procedure.

Reports all customer field complaints and/or damage claims to supervisor immediately.

Presents a positive, professional image to the customers and client cable companies in all interactions.

Provides technical knowledge, expertise and training to other installers as required.

Daily or overnight travel may be required as work adjustments occur. Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must be able to lift, carry and climb eighty pound 28 foot extension ladders, which are rated at a capacity of 300 lbs.

Must be able to work year round outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

Must be able to routinely stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or crawl and work in attics, basements and crawl spaces on a regular basis.

Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record. Must be able to work routine overtime.

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of management, technical personnel, service/dispatch personnel, other contractors, and the general public.

Good oral and written communication skills. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.

Strong work team orientation; with the ability to work with others to accomplish tasks; can be an individual contributor and part of a team effort.

Education and Work Experience:

A High School Diploma or GED preferred. Basis electronics or cable television coursework is helpful. Experience using hand and power tools.

Basic understanding of televisions, computers and related equipment is helpful.
