Distinguishing Features of Work Keep Wichita's wastewater treatment operations running safely and reliably as an Electrical Technician supporting the City's Sewer Treatment Division. This skilled position plays a critical role in maintaining the electrical and control systems that power essential wastewater treatment processes and protect the community's infrastructure.

Work includes installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining 120- and 480-volt electrical systems, PLCs, VFDs, control panels, motors, process equipment, electrical distribution systems, and instrumentation. The Electrical Technician diagnoses equipment problems, performs preventive maintenance, reads electrical drawings, and supports electrical installation and improvement projects. The position may also work with Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems and 4-20 mA control circuits and may provide direction to lower-level technical employees.

Work requires sound electrical judgment, strong troubleshooting skills, attention to safety, and the ability to respond effectively to equipment issues in an operational wastewater treatment environment. Bargaining Unit: Employee Council Workdays and Hours - Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm With after-hour and weekend standby duty **Posting may close at any time ** Examples of Work Performed Inspects, analyzes, maintains, and repairs various types of 120 and 480 volt electrical and electronic equipment, electrical equipment control devices, and electric systems, lines, and control cables. Maintains and trouble shoots PLC's, 480-volt electrical systems, VFD's, control panels, circuits, breakers and process equipment.

Advises in the development of specifications and drawings; and planning, supervising and inspecting electrical repairs and/or new electrical installations. Requisitions supplies, parts and tools for use in maintenance. May supervise the activities of employees engaged in performing installation and repair work on electrical and electronic systems.

Maintains and repairs medium or high voltage electrical distribution system. lighting systems. Completion of work assignments will require the operation of a vehicle.

Requirements of Work Thorough knowledge of procedures, tools, and equipment used in electrical and electromechanical maintenance work Thorough knowledge of medium or high voltage distribution system and the electrical and electromechanical devices used within these systems Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions Thorough knowledge of requirements of the National Electric Code Some knowledge of other utilities may be required Ability to estimate time and material needed for projects Ability to read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and drawings Ability to work at heights of up to 35 feet Ability to work in confined spaces Ability to exert torque up to 125 pounds Ability to determine color of wire Ability to troubleshoot equipment by sound Ability to lift and handle equipment, such as motors, valves, or actuators, weighing up to 85 pounds once or twice monthly, possibly under emergency conditions during hours in which no assistance is available Ability to tolerate contact/exposure to cleaners or solvents Ability to make minute adjustments and repairs to intricate components Knowledge of the standard computer keyboard configurations and ability to access, interpret and record information using a video display terminal and electronic keyboard For Water Production and Sewage Treatment positions, experience with or ability to learn Human Machine Interface (HMI) software Ability to program and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers and 4-20 milli volt circuits.

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, representatives of other organizations, and the public. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.

An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace. Experience and Training Required Experience and Training High school diploma or GED. Two (2) years of experience or formal training in an industrial setting involving the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, or repair of 480-volt electrical or electronic systems and equipment.

A valid driver's license. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship. Preferred Experience and Training Graduation from an electrical or electronic trade school.

Associate's degree in electrical technology or Electronic Technology. Completion of a three (3) to five (5) year Electrician Apprentice program. Journeyman Electrician certificate.

Starting pay for current City employees will be determined by City of Wichita policy or applicable bargaining unit agreement.
