Job Description
  • We are looking for a mid-level Cable Technician II to join our layer-one structured cabling team. This role builds on the copper foundation of Tech I and adds full proficiency in fiber optic installation, termination, and testing. The Tech II is expected to work independently across both media types, guide Tech I personnel on day-to-day installation tasks, and take ownership of moderately complex scopes from plan to acceptance.

This is an onsite role in a cleanroom semiconductor manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will spend extended periods in a smock with required PPE, working from floor plans or ticket-driven scopes to deliver layer-one infrastructure that meets companyย and industry standards. Tech II has strong expectations towards hands-on execution, solid fiber skills, and the judgment to catch and escalate design or field issues before they become rework.

    Responsibilities:

  • Lead the installation, adjustment, and change of copper and fiber layer-one network connections for technical systems.
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot Category 5e/6/6a copper cabling and single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cabling for data infrastructure in a large enterprise environment.
  • Terminate fiber across a range of interfaces and form factors (LC, SC, ST, APC) using both field-termination and pre-terminated methods; perform fusion and mechanical splicing as required.
  • Test and certify fiber using industry-standard equipment (OTDR, OLTS, fiber inspection scopes) and interpret results to acceptance criteria.
  • Properly comb, dress, and label copper and fiber cables in accordance with site and industry standards; enforce bend-radius and pull-tension discipline.
  • Implement structured pathways per approved designs; identify physical constraints and propose field-practical corrections to the senior technician.
  • Interpret floor plan designs and as-builts; redline field deviations and submit for incorporation into final documentation.
  • Provide day-to-day direction and on-the-job training to Tech I personnel on copper and basic fiber work.
  • Work from a request / ticket system, owning assigned scopes end-to-end including pre-job material checks, execution, and closeout documentation.
  • Author and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for install, test, and acceptance workflows.
  • Support the network team on hardware replacements, rack / de-rack activity, hotfix participation to resolve connectivity issues and scheduled change points.
  • Support 24x7 data center and fab operation per on-call scheduling.
  • Follow all on-site security protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, and company policies.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in the structured cabling industry, including hands-on copper and fiber work.
  • 2+ years of experience in a construction environment with working knowledge of standard safety practices.
  • Demonstrated cabling experience with knowledge of low-voltage specifications, standards, and safety practices.
  • Proficient with copper termination (Cat 5e/6/6a) and cable certification using industry-standard testers (Fluke DSX or equivalent).
  • Proficient with fiber termination across multiple interfaces (LC, SC, APC, MPO/MTP) and with fiber testing (OTDR, OLTS, inspection scopes).
  • Able to speak, read, and write clearly in English.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must live within a one-hour drive of assigned campus.
  • Moderate computer literacy: Microsoft Office, standard file systems, typing, and proper email etiquette.
  • Ability to read and follow floor plan designs and as-built documentation.
  • OSHA 10 certification.

Preferredย Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a related technical field.
  • Prior experience in a semiconductor, cleanroom, data center, or other mission-critical environment.
  • BICSI Installer 1 or Installer 2 certification.
  • Fusion splicing certification or manufacturer-specific fiber termination certification (Corning, CommScope, Panduit, etc.).
  • Experience mentoring junior technicians or leading small crews on scoped work.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
