Job description

Amphenol Pcd is seeking a Design Engineer II to join our Cable Solutions team in Beverly, MA. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience in the design and development of interconnect solutions. You will work on a variety of engineering projects related to cable assemblies and over-molded components, supporting both product development and manufacturing operations.

Job Summary:

The Design Engineer II designs, develops, and enhances new and existing cable assembly products. This role evaluates and recommends specifications to ensure products meet technical, functional, and quality requirements. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the Design Engineer II helps drive projects forward by performing feasibility studies, drafting 3D models, supporting first-time builds, and ensuring successful transition to production.

Essential Functions:

  • Review customer drawings and design cable assemblies and over-mold tooling using 3D CAD.

  • Create bills of materials (BOMs) and standard routings for production.

  • Assist with development and support of first-time cable builds.

  • Design, develop, and release new connector and cable assembly products to production.

  • Develop tooling designs for thermoplastic injection molded and over-molded components.

  • Review and approve initial cable assembly builds and provide manufacturing support for design-related issues.

  • Interface with customers to provide product design proposals, recommend materials, and prepare quotations.

  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and materials teams to meet project goals.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • 2+ years of relevant experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and customer product specifications.

  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and drafting (PTC Creo, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD preferred).

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Skills / Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 Cable and Wire Harness Assembly standards.

  • Exposure to cable design, program management, or injection molding is a plus.

  • Understanding of military-grade products and qualifications.

  • Knowledge of parts list creation and labor standardization is preferred.

The salary range for this role is $75,000 USD - $100,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. PCD considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
