What is a Cabinet Vision Engineer?

A Cabinet Vision Engineer is a professional who specializes in using Cabinet Vision software to design, engineer, and optimize cabinetry and woodworking projects. Their responsibilities include creating detailed 3D models, producing shop drawings, and generating cut lists for manufacturing cabinets and related furniture. They work closely with production teams to ensure that designs are accurate, manufacturable, and meet client specifications. This role requires expertise in both design software and an understanding of woodworking processes. Cabinet Vision Engineers are commonly employed in custom cabinetry shops and manufacturing companies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Cabinet Vision Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cabinet Vision Engineer, you need expertise in cabinetry design, CAD drafting, and a solid understanding of woodworking principles, typically supported by relevant technical education or experience. Proficiency in Cabinet Vision software, CNC programming, and familiarity with manufacturing systems are crucial. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with production teams and clients. These skills ensure accurate project execution, efficient workflow, and high-quality custom cabinetry results.

How does a Cabinet Vision Engineer typically collaborate with production and design teams during a project?

A Cabinet Vision Engineer works closely with both the design and production teams to ensure that custom cabinetry projects are accurately modeled and ready for manufacturing. They translate design concepts into detailed technical drawings and CNC-ready files using Cabinet Vision software, clarifying specifications and resolving any design discrepancies with designers. Regular meetings and clear communication are essential, as engineers must address feedback from the shop floor, make adjustments for manufacturability, and ensure all documentation is up to date. This collaborative approach helps streamline the workflow and reduces errors during production.

Job description

Cabinet Production CAD Specialist

Full-Time | Longwood, FL

Join Our Engineering & Production Team

Closet Factory Orlando is seeking a detail-oriented Cabinet Production CAD Specialist to join our manufacturing team. This position transforms designer concepts into accurate, production-ready drawings and manufacturing documentation for custom closets, home offices, garages, pantries, entertainment centers, wall beds, and other custom cabinetry.

Every project we build is custom. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and the ability to think through how a project will actually be manufactured and installed—not just how it looks on paper.

What You'll Do

  • Convert designer drawings into accurate production-ready manufacturing drawings.
  • Analyze projects to ensure they can be manufactured and installed efficiently while maintaining design intent.
  • Create and modify cabinet drawings using KCD and related production software.
  • Prepare CNC-ready manufacturing files and production documentation.
  • Verify dimensions, construction details, hardware, and material specifications.
  • Collaborate with designers, production, and installers to resolve technical issues.
  • Help maintain engineering standards, drafting consistency, and production quality.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who is analytical, mechanically minded, detail-oriented, and enjoys solving technical and manufacturing problems. The ideal candidate takes pride in producing accurate work, understands that small errors can become costly production mistakes, and works well with both office and shop personnel.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with cabinetry, millwork, furniture manufacturing, or finish carpentry.
  • Experience using CAD or drafting software (KCD, AutoCAD, Cabinet Vision, Microvellum, SketchUp, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Knowledge and experience with the 32mm cabinetmaking system (system 32).
  • Ability to read architectural drawings, elevations, shop drawings, and blueprints.
  • Strong understanding of Imperial and Metric measurement systems.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Windows and Microsoft 365.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with problem-solving skills and the ability to identify potential manufacturing or installation issues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a production team.
  • Motivated to continuously improve processes, accuracy, and efficiency.

Experience with KCD, Cutrite, or woodWOP is a plus but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate with strong mechanical aptitude and cabinetry knowledge.

What We Offer

  • $19.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience and skill level.
  • 40–50 hours per week, with overtime as operational demands require.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid holidays and vacation time.
  • Advanced manufacturing equipment and modern production software.
  • Stable, year-round employment with a leading custom cabinetry manufacturer.

Position Details

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, with overtime and occasional Saturdays as needed.

Location: Longwood, Florida. This is a full-time, in-person position. Reliable transportation and the ability to commute daily are required.
