Primary purpose: The Custom Bench area specializes in the fabrication and assembly of custom cabinets using textured melamine materials. This role focuses on precision craftsmanship with prefinished materials, requiring detailed knowledge of handling, cutting, edge banding, and assembling textured melamine to achieve clean, high-quality results and meet production goals.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and spec sheets to guide custom cabinet fabrication.
  • Precision Tool Use: Operate hand and power tools-such as routers, table saws, miter saws, and drills-with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Material Handling: Cut, shape, and assemble textured melamine components using both tools and specialized woodworking machinery.
  • Custom Modifications: Modify standard components to meet unique design or space requirements.
  • Engineering Collaboration: Work closely with engineers to resolve fit, dimension, or material challenges during fabrication.
  • Quality Control: Conduct detailed inspections for part alignment, finish quality, and structural soundness.
  • Jig & Fixture Setup: Create and use custom jigs, clamps, and fixtures to support complex or specialized cabinet assemblies.
  • Shop Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following safety protocols and best practices.
  • Team Communication: Coordinate with supervisors and coworkers to ensure smooth workflow and timely issue resolution.
  • Cross-Training: Participate in training across roles to support team flexibility and skill development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and adapt components to custom or non-standard conditions with minimal supervision.
  • Technical Skills: Skilled in measuring, cutting, and assembling cabinet components with precision.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and remain standing for extended periods.
  • Communication: Clear and professional verbal communication with team members and supervisors.
  • Time Management: Efficiently complete tasks within established production timelines.
  • Detail Orientation: Commitment to craftsmanship, clean finishes, and high-quality construction.
  • Cultural Alignment: Support Franklin's values of continuous improvement, lean principles, and a safe, respectful workplace.
  • Adaptability: Willing to take on other duties as assigned and contribute to team success.

Strongly Preferred:

  • Industry Experience: Prior experience in cabinet production, finish carpentry, or custom installation.
  • Software Familiarity: Experience with shop communication tools like Trello and Production Coach.
