What is cabinet design?

Cabinet design is the process of planning, creating, and detailing cabinets for kitchens, bathrooms, offices, and other spaces. It involves selecting materials, styles, finishes, and hardware to meet both aesthetic and functional needs. Cabinet designers work closely with clients to ensure the final product fits the space and complements the overall decor. The process may include creating 3D renderings, technical drawings, and overseeing installation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cabinet designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cabinet Designer, you need a solid understanding of design principles, spatial planning, and materials, often backed by a degree or certification in interior design or a related field. Proficiency in CAD software, 3D modeling programs, and knowledge of cabinetry hardware and manufacturing processes are typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help Cabinet Designers collaborate effectively with clients and contractors. These skills ensure the delivery of functional, aesthetically pleasing, and precise cabinetry solutions that meet client needs and industry standards.

What are some common challenges faced by cabinet designers when working on custom projects, and how can they be addressed?

Cabinet designers often encounter challenges such as balancing client preferences with space limitations, managing changes during the design process, and coordinating with contractors or installers. To address these, clear communication with clients about expectations and constraints is essential from the outset. Additionally, collaborating closely with other professionals and staying organized with detailed plans and 3D renderings can help prevent misunderstandings and ensure successful project execution.

We provide quality products including cabinets, doors, windows, butcher block, vinyl plank flooring, and other construction and remodeling supplies.

We are looking for a Cabinet Installer & Design/Sales Associate to join our team. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working with their hands but also feels comfortable working directly with customers.

The ideal candidate will have experience installing cabinets and the ability to learn or utilize cabinet design software to help customers plan kitchen and other cabinetry layouts. While this position is not initially an Assistant Manager role, we are looking for someone with the potential and desire to grow with the company and eventually take on additional leadership responsibilities.

What You'll Do

Customer Service & Sales

  • Work directly with customers to understand their needs, preferences, and project goals.
  • Help customers select cabinets, finishes, hardware, and related products.
  • Take measurements and gather information necessary for cabinet projects.
  • Create or modify kitchen and cabinetry layouts using company design software.
  • Explain design options, product choices, and project considerations to customers.
  • Prepare or assist with estimates and quotes.
  • Communicate professionally with homeowners, contractors, builders, and other customers.
  • Follow projects from the initial customer consultation through ordering and installation.
  • Help resolve questions or issues that arise during a project.

Cabinet Installation & Construction

  • Install kitchen, bathroom, and other cabinetry accurately and professionally.
  • Measure spaces and ensure cabinets are properly fitted and installed.
  • Read and interpret cabinet layouts, measurements, and plans.
  • Assist with modifications, adjustments, and finishing work as needed.
  • Safely use common hand and power tools.
  • Load, unload, move, and handle cabinets and other building materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Assist with other construction-supply tasks as needed.

Growth & Leadership

  • Learn Lone Star Supply's products, processes, software, and business operations.
  • Take increasing ownership of cabinet projects and customer relationships.
  • Assist with training and supporting other team members as experience grows.
  • Demonstrate initiative and reliability.
  • Potentially grow into an Assistant Manager or other leadership position as the business and the employee's skills develop.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is dependable, personable, hands-on, and willing to learn.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous cabinet installation experience.
  • Experience using hand and power tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with measurements.
  • Comfort working with customers face-to-face.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software.
  • Ability to visualize and understand spatial layouts and dimensions.
  • Ability to work independently while also being a team player.
  • Professional attitude and appearance.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift and move cabinets and other materials.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, reach, and work in various physical positions throughout the workday.
  • Willingness and ability to work Saturdays.

Preferred, But Not Required

Experience in any of the following is a plus:

  • Cabinet installation
  • Cabinet design
  • Kitchen and bath remodeling
  • Construction or building materials
  • Carpentry or finish carpentry
  • Residential remodeling
  • Construction sales
  • Customer service
  • Cabinet design software
  • Estimating or quoting
  • Supervisory or leadership experience

You do not need to have previous management experience to apply. We're more interested in finding someone who has the right combination of hands-on ability, customer service skills, reliability, and potential to grow.
